About The Position

The Occupational Safety and Health Supervisor supports the Administrator by implementing the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) On-site Consultation program, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Survey of Occupational Injuries (SOII), and Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFI). This role will ensure program compliance with all OSHA and BLS's policies and procedures. As a supervisor of 5 staff members, you will ensure all mandated program goals and deadlines are met or exceeded. You will also conduct program promotional marketing outreach and presentations with employers and related business groups.

Requirements

  • Four years’ experience in conducting safety and health inspections to identify hazards or deficiencies.
  • Two years’ experience in planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing safety and health inspections to identify hazards or deficiencies and reporting on finding.
  • Three years’ experience in providing consultation to resolve workplace hazards in compliance with occupational safety and health laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Two years’ experience in public relations or communications such as establishing and promoting a positive image with the public and informing specific audiences using internal and external communications such as public forums, marketing, promotions or special events.
  • Coursework, training and/or work experience in staff supervision which may include performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate’s degree in Health or Safety, Industrial Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science, Environmental Health, or other related health or science field may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher in Industrial Hygiene, Health or Safety, Industrial Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science, Environmental Health, or other related health or science field.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises two or more merit full time positions. The elements of supervision include performing the following on a regular and continuing basis: planning, assigning, reviewing, evaluating, coaching, training, disciplining, and recommending hire, termination, and promotion.
  • Provides expert technical guidance, consultation, and recommendations to employers, employees, and staff to resolve complex health and safety hazards, issues, and other concerns; makes decisions on the most complex or unusual cases.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements health and safety inspections to identify hazards or deficiencies; determines the most appropriate measures to enforce compliance for the most complex cases.
  • Ensures compliance of work with all state and federal laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Oversees and approves case records, reports/surveys, and recommendations made by staff and ensures accuracy, timeliness, and validity of findings.
  • Analyzes and evaluates operations and performance; makes recommendations such as new or revised programs, processes, and procedures that facilitate effectiveness and compliance and oversees the implementation and the resolution of risk management issues.
  • Participates in strategic planning and ensures goals and objectives are met.
  • Researches and analyzes the impact of new or revised state and federal legislation, laws, rules, or regulations, and directives on agency operations; prepares reports of findings and recommendations.
  • Communicates and interacts effectively with people across cultures, ranges of ability, genders, ethnicities, ages, and races.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
