About The Position

The Occupational Health Nurse serves as a key resource for employee health, workplace safety, and regulatory compliance by providing medical care, emergency response, and occupational health expertise to the organization and its employees. This role partners closely with Human Resources, Safety, Operations, and external medical providers to support employee wellbeing, minimize workplace injuries, and ensure compliance with all applicable medical regulations.

Requirements

  • BSN is required
  • Current state license as a registered nurse
  • 3-5 years of nursing experience required
  • ARC Instructor – BBP, CPR, First Aid, AED
  • Certification in Occupational Hearing Conservation
  • Certification in Worker’s Compensation training
  • FMSCA training for Breath Alcohol and urine testing

Nice To Haves

  • MSN preferred
  • Occupational Nursing experience preferred (will also consider Emergency or Critical Care nursing)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate new hire and post-accident drug testing procedure
  • Facilitates compliance programs and maintains required records. (Including worker’s compensation, hazardous communication, medical records, safety reports, OSHA programs, CDL physicals)
  • Facilitates required documentation for various employee benefit programs; including Employee Assistance Program, medical leaves, short-term and long-term disability
  • Develop and implement health promotion programs and education initiatives
  • Triage employee needs, resulting from a work-related injury or medical emergency, and determine appropriate medical actions based on Medical Directives and NC BON Nurse Practice Act
  • Oversight and management of medical supplies -Order medical supplies, check first aid cabinets and restock as necessary
  • Manage hazardous communication program
  • Maintain medical records, safety reports, and OSHA programs
  • Provide input for the ergonomic job descriptions; if new processes are implemented, will need to ensure ergonomic assessment of task(s) has been completed
  • Administer and manage hearing conservation program as well as annual testing. This includes pre-employment hearing tests, annual hearing tests, follow up if a STS is suspected, annual maintenance of audiometric equipment, annual noise survey in all locations, and specialty fitting of hearing protections
  • Facilitate return to work evaluations, for employees who have returned from medical leave or are recovering from a work-related injury
  • Point of contact for employees who need prescription safety glasses to ensure eligibility for the glasses. In addition, provide ‘reader’ safety glasses for those employees who require this PPE
  • Provide or coordinate training for CPR, BBP, First Aid and AED certification, and Reasonable Suspicion
  • Provide employee relations support for the Human Resources Department
  • Serve as member of ADA committee to review requests for ADA accommodations
  • Facilitate monthly Safety Committee meetings
