About The Position

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Manager is responsible for implementing and maintaining WMFN’s health and safety program to ensure compliance with the Canada Labour Code, Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and WorkSafe BC. This critical role will work closely with other department managers and the Human Resources team to safeguard consistent application of policies and procedures across the workforce. The OHS Manager will oversee the Health & Safety Committee, workplace inspections and all required reporting to support a safe, healthy, and respectful workplace. This is a full-time (35 hours per week), in-person position requiring the successful candidate to be located at the lake, in Chetwynd or Hudson Hope areas. Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Human Resources, or a related field
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience implementing or supporting the implementation of a compliant Health and Safety program
  • Occupational First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain)
  • Strong working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations in federal workplaces
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and risk assessments
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Clear Criminal Record Check

Nice To Haves

  • Professional designation such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or actively working toward designation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and conduct risk assessments and develop risk controls and mitigations for identified hazards
  • Develop & conduct competency assessments, skills training, orientations, safety inspections, incident investigations, and needs analyses
  • Perform administrative tasks such as record keeping and documentation requirements
  • Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is up to date, in working order, and provided to employees
  • Writing submissions and reports as well as conducting presentations to WMFN employees
  • Manage workplace injury and illness reporting in conjunction with WMFN policy and notifying the Human Resources team as needed
  • Track and analyze incident trends and metrics to inform prevention strategies
  • Mentoring and training employees on OHS programs, practices, and PPE
  • Coordinate with department Managers to deliver appropriate safety training to employees
  • Develop and communicate emergency response plans to all WMFN employees
  • Manage monthly and annual OHS reporting as regulated by Canadian government
  • Research and stay on top of evolving OHS program requirements
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies such as WorkSafe Health Authorities and various industry safety associations and providers as needed
  • Complete audits and compliance checks
  • Advise leadership on safety risks, compliance obligations, and best practices to foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Oversee the workplace health & safety committee as required by legislation
