About The Position

Provides patient care in an office setting under the supervision of the medical provider. Meets the communication needs of the employee/patient, employer, and medical provider. Occupational Health Nurses are responsible for many functions in their role that is significant to the investigation, treatment, and prevention of workplace-related injuries and illnesses. Conducts physical assessments and drug screening for pre-employment. Maintains and follows regulatory requirement and policies and procedures. Communicates with medical providers, employers, and staff about patient’s clinical condition.

  • Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.
  • Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards.
  • Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.

  • Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and/or standards from other accrediting bodies, such as The Joint Commission, Rural Health, and Center for Medicare Services.

  • Answers and refers inquiries within scope of practice.
  • Answers telephone, processes calls, and documents appropriately within medical records.
  • Returns all messages in a timely manner.
  • Maintains communication between medical staff, administrative staff, and/or patient/families.
  • Maintains and updates medical records.
  • Schedules appointments.
  • Facilitates medical requests, to include but not limited to, refill requests, work / school notes, and form completion.
  • Scans and uploads patient clinical documents into medical chart.
  • Processes and coordinates all medical provider orders to include but not limited to, diagnostic, referral, pharmaceutical and surgical services.
  • Reviews daily provider schedule and ensures all supplies and medical records are ready for patient and provider encounters.
  • Provides patient education as directed by medical provider and within scope of practice.
  • Ensures all equipment in exam and surgical rooms are clean and properly set up.
  • Contributes to the overall cleanliness and appearance of personal workspace and department.
  • Monitors clinical supply levels in exam rooms and stock room and requests when needed.
  • Maintains all clinical equipment.
  • Evaluates all equipment for damage or maintenance needs and reports when needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
