About The Position

Tommy’s is looking for an Occupational Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist to play a crucial role by helping to implement, maintain, oversee, and adapt policies and programs to maintain the high standards and compliance of the organization’s environmental and safety performance. This role ensures the company complies with current and future internal and external regulations and safety standards. The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist will lead the company’s Safety Committee and Emergency Response Team that serves a critical purpose of protecting team members. Provides guidance and expertise to ensure proper levels of training, understanding and compliance.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional experience within environmental health and safety.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of MIOSHA and OSHA regulations, compliance reporting, and worker’s compensation insurance required.
  • Technical savvy and proficient in Microsoft Office; experience within database systems a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Process-oriented and strong collaborator with ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and across various departments.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to multitask and prioritize workload .
  • Highly adaptable with strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills; ability to exercise good judgment and make sound data-backed decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a robust safety program of policies and procedures that includes hazard communications, safety data sheets (SDS) and lock-out tag-out (LOTO) requirements for the company’s manufacturing warehouse in addition to car wash site locations.
  • Provides guidance on the general functions of the company’s safety and health programs. Evaluates work areas, work procedures, the working environment, accident/injury data and other aspects relating to safety and ergonomics. Make recommendations, create and implement action and training programs as required by MIOSHA and support continuous improvements.
  • Monitor program performance, identify risks, areas of improvement, conduct and manage audits and on-site inspections to identify and correct workplace hazards.
  • Ensure ordering, distribution, and enforcement of all required personal protective equipment (PPE). Coordinates required fit testing of PPE.
  • Remains current with best practices and ensures that the company remains compliant with the relevant policies and procedures. Creates and implements programs to comply with regulations.
  • Provides documented training, information and advice on internal guidelines that pertain to safety and health. Identify and implement plans/programs to address opportunities or changes where necessary.
  • Manage worker’s compensation program, investigate incidents, and prepare claims and documentation accordingly. Ensure investigations of spills, accidents, incidents and injuries, including “near misses” and first aid report injuries to proper parties and ensures proper reporting.
  • Design, implement and manage driver safety programs for all vehicles operated while doing Tommy business. Ensure all DOT requirements, licenses, and/or certifications are documented in order to operate company trucks, hi-lo’s, lifts, vehicles, plows, tow trailers, etc. along with proper locked storage of all keys. Also includes proper verification of MVRs and COIs when using rented or personal vehicles while conducting Tommy business.
  • Oversee all items related to environmental health and safety compliance, reporting, insurance and audits. Follows requirements of State and National Safety and Health guidelines.
  • Inspire and build a culture of safety that eliminates the risk of occupational injury and illness and environmental non-compliance.
  • Lead the Emergency Response Team and Safety Committee, develop and drive safety trainings, and provide guidance to area managers.
