About The Position

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the OB Technician assists registered nurses in delivering patient care and maintains a clean, adequately stocked unit. The role supports obstetric, newborn, and post-operative patients, works under the direction or delegation of registered nurses and providers within scope of practice, and upholds the MHS Standards of Excellence and strict confidentiality. This is a PRN position, scheduled as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent training and/or experience.
• Current BLS certification.
• Maintain compliance in RQI.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• Manual dexterity.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology and sterile technique.
• Ability to move quickly under stress.
• Ability to read, write, and perform math at a level generally demonstrated by a high school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe environment for obstetric, newborn, and post-operative patients, including cleaning labor, delivery, and recovery rooms (LDRs) and the OB operating room, completing checklists, and restocking essential supplies.
• Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
• Provide direct care to obstetric, newborn, and post-operative patients as assigned by the charge nurse or delegated by a registered nurse.
• Assist the Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) with clerical functions.
• Assist with teaching patients, families, and significant others.
• Consistently document necessary information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Assist with the maintenance of equipment.
• Assist with vaginal and cesarean deliveries under the direction of the registered nurse and provider, within scope of practice.
• Function as a scribe during OB emergencies.
• Perform bedside testing under the direction of the registered nurse.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
