About The Position

Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health is the first new full-service hospital in Washington, DC in more than 20 years, integrating clinical care with existing community providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC’s), The George Washington University Hospital, and our Urgent Care Center in Ward 8. This integrated delivery system is a robust network of care for all District residents, but more importantly, it ensures that residents of Wards 7 and 8 have access to high quality care in their community. This full-service hospital includes 136 beds (with the ability to expand to 184 beds), a verified trauma center, adult and pediatric emergency departments, maternal health and newborn delivery, an ambulatory pavilion for clinic visits and other outpatient services, a 500-car garage, and a helipad for emergency transport. We are seeking an experienced OB Scrub Technician - Labor & Delivery (PRN). The OB Scrub Technician – Labor & Delivery is responsible for providing technical, surgical, and patient care support to the Labor & Delivery team during obstetrical procedures. Working under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) and obstetric provider, the OB Scrub Tech prepares and maintains the sterile field, assists with cesarean sections and vaginal deliveries, maintains surgical equipment and supplies, and provides basic patient care to mothers and newborns. The OB Scrub Tech plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality care for obstetric patients.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.

Nice To Haves

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, organize, and maintain sterile surgical fields for obstetrical procedures.
  • Scrub and assist physicians during: Cesarean Sections (C-Sections), Vaginal Deliveries, Tubal Ligations, Cerclage Procedures, Dilation & Curettage (D&C), Emergency Obstetrical Procedures.
  • Perform surgical counts with the circulating RN according to policy.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments, supplies, sutures, and medications while maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, draping, specimen collection, and dressing application.
  • Handle and label specimens according to hospital policy.
  • Prepare delivery tables and equipment for vaginal births.
  • Assist physicians, certified nurse midwives, and RNs during vaginal deliveries.
  • Assist with newborn care immediately following delivery as directed.
  • Support neonatal resuscitation preparation and ensure emergency equipment is readily available.
  • Assist with circumcisions and other bedside obstetrical procedures.
