About The Position

Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility (Indian Health Service) is a full-service Client hospital and outpatient clinic serving the Navajo Nation. The facility provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services including primary care, emergency medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, dental, behavioral health, and specialty clinics. As one of the largest Client facilities on the Navajo Reservation, it serves as a critical healthcare hub for the region. Chinle is a vibrant community located in the heart of the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona, nestled at the mouth of the legendary Canyon de Chelly National Monument. With a population of approximately 4,500, Chinle serves as the administrative and commercial center for the region. The town is surrounded by breathtaking red sandstone formations, ancient cliff dwellings, and sweeping desert landscapes that draw visitors from around the world. Living in Chinle means immersion in one of the most culturally rich environments in America — Navajo language, art, and tradition are an integral part of everyday life.

Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG).
• Active, unrestricted medical license (Arizona license or ability to obtain).
• Current DEA registration.
• Current BLS certification (ACLS and NRP preferred).
• Minimum 2 years of clinical OB/GYN experience; experience in rural or underserved settings preferred.
• Experience with electronic health records.
• Experience serving Native American, Client, or tribal healthcare populations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecological care including prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum services.
• Perform gynecological examinations, screenings, and diagnostic evaluations.
• Manage high-risk pregnancies and coordinate referrals to tertiary care facilities when necessary.
• Perform surgical procedures including cesarean sections, hysterectomies, and other gynecological surgeries.
• Provide family planning counseling and contraceptive management.
• Collaborate with midwives, nursing staff, and allied health professionals in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Maintain thorough and timely clinical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing medical education.
• Provide culturally competent care to a predominantly Native American patient population, with sensitivity to traditional beliefs and practices.
