About The Position

The O&M / Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Tejas Energy Center, a 247 MW simple-cycle facility with three LM6000 PC units and one Siemens 501 D5 gas turbine. This position combines plant operations with hands-on electrical, controls, and instrumentation maintenance. The role performs troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and preventive maintenance on low-voltage through 480V systems, including Allen-Bradley PLCs, MCCs, switchgear, turbine controls, and instrumentation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Relevant experience in power generation, industrial, or manufacturing environments involving turbine operations, electrical systems, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex plant equipment.
  • Hands-on experience inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems up to 480 volts, including motors, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, wiring, and associated control equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate turbine-generator and auxiliary systems, including startup and shutdown activities.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and control systems, including Allen-Bradley PLCs, ladder logic, control logic, turbine controls, automatic generation control (AGC), and associated plant instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, flow diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and other technical documentation used during troubleshooting and system walkdowns.
  • Skilled in the use of diagnostic and calibration equipment, including multimeters, process calibrators, communicators, oscilloscopes, and related instrumentation tools.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with plant personnel, contractors, and vendors in support of safe and reliable plant operations.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate degree in instrumentation, electrical technology, power plant technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Equivalent industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Experience with LM6000 PC, Siemens 501 D5, or comparable gas turbine equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot turbine control, auxiliary, instrumentation, and electrical systems ranging from 24V instrumentation through 480V motors, MCCs, and related equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on LM6000 PC units, the Siemens 501 D5 turbine, auxiliary systems, and other major plant equipment.
  • Inspect, install, test, repair, and replace motors, generators, transformers, switches, wiring, instrumentation, and control equipment within assigned voltage levels.
  • Interpret control logic, Allen-Bradley PLC programming, schematics, and P&IDs while using diagnostic and calibration tools to test and analyze plant systems.
  • Support modifications, upgrades, and integration of turbine controls, PLC systems, instrumentation, and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Operate and monitor the LM6000 PC units, Siemens 501 D5 gas turbine, and associated auxiliary and balance-of-plant systems, including turbine-generator startups, shutdowns, and normal operation within established limits.
  • Manage plant control and alarm conditions, including Allen-Bradley PLC-based controls and automatic generation control (AGC), and respond appropriately to abnormal conditions.
  • Support operation and maintenance of evaporative cooling, water-injection NOx control, selective catalytic reduction, and other emissions-control and auxiliary systems.
  • Conduct system walkdowns using P&IDs, flow diagrams, and other technical drawings to verify equipment condition and identify operating or maintenance issues.
  • Complete mechanical and electrical switching, equipment isolation, and tagging activities in accordance with approved procedures and required supervision.
  • Maintain accurate operating logs, work orders, preventive and predictive maintenance records, equipment files, system diagrams, operating manuals, technical references, and other required documentation.
  • Coordinate spare-parts, consumables, and inventory needs to ensure materials are available to support plant operations and maintenance activities.
  • Safely operate plant vehicles, hoists, lifting equipment, hand tools, and other maintenance equipment required to perform assigned work.
  • Adhere to OSHA requirements, environmental regulations, plant safety procedures, and established safe work practices while participating in training, emergency response drills, scheduled outages, and plant improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with plant personnel, contractors, and vendors, and complete other duties or projects as directed by the O&M Supervisor or assigned by the Plant Manager to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

Benefits

  • Eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
