NYC Community Manager

R.A.DNew York, NY

About The Position

R.A.D® is a performance footwear company rooted in training, with an aesthetic influenced by the lifestyle subcultures. Launched in 2022 and making waves in the training market against some of the biggest footwear companies on the planet, we are an underdog—committed to breaking the outdated stereotypes that portray sport and training as macho, intimidating, or uninviting. Sport is woven into all aspects of society and has long been a catalyst for positive change. We believe the joy of sport is enhanced by a holistic approach to the lifestyle surrounding it, with a focus on three key areas: training, competition, and community. As the NYC Community Manager for R.A.D®, you will build and maintain key relationships across the gym training community in New York. We believe that building our brand through grassroots methods—and retaining a deep connection to the gym community—is what sets us apart and will deliver long-term relevance and brand growth. This role reports to the Director of Community & Partnerships and plays a pivotal role in shaping how R.A.D® shows up with the gym community. As we scale, your remit will expand into wider East Coast hubs, starting with NYC and Brooklyn. You are not a marketer pushing a brand. You are a genuine community builder. You are deeply embedded in the NYC training community. You know the coaches, the gyms, the events, and the culture—and people know you. You build relationships through showing up, not through campaigns. You understand that credibility in this space is earned slowly and lost quickly, and you treat every interaction accordingly. You are organized and self-directed. Operating remotely and largely independently, you manage your own time, prioritize with purpose, and stay closely aligned with the wider team. You are as comfortable having a coffee with a coach as you are presenting a strategy to a director. Most importantly, you care about the community you are building—not just what it does for R.A.D®, but what R.A.D® can do for it.

Requirements

  • Deep, existing roots in the NYC gym training community—CrossFit, functional fitness, Hyrox, or adjacent spaces
  • A genuine passion for sport, training, and the culture surrounding it
  • Proven experience in community management, brand partnerships, or grassroots marketing
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to connect authentically across coaches, athletes, and community leaders
  • Self-motivated and highly organized, with the ability to manage your own schedule and priorities remotely
  • Clear communicator—comfortable reporting back to the wider team and representing the brand externally
  • An understanding of what makes a community feel real, and what makes it feel like marketing

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the Director of Community & Partnerships to establish and execute the US-specific community strategy, with a primary focus on NYC
  • Build relationships with coaches and the wider training community in a grassroots, authentic manner
  • Develop partnerships with relevant players in the gym training space, driving credibility for the R.A.D® brand
  • In time, host key community members and groups—ensuring that they feel genuinely connected to R.A.D® and part of what we are building
  • Train, participate, and spectate at local events and community meals with key members
  • Visit an agreed volume of gyms and training spaces per week across the CrossFit, functional training, and Hyrox space — determined by a pre-agreed tiering system
  • Build out the R.A.D® Coaching Team in NYC, focused on recruiting high-level, respected coaches
  • Build and manage relationships with all coaching team members, making them feel part of something community-driven and meaningful
  • Check in with each member a minimum of once per month—workout, coffee, or conversation
  • Look for opportunities to support coaching team members on a personal level, beyond the brand relationship
  • Partner with the coaching team on event collaboration and activations
  • Continuously prioritize building new coaching relationships and plan gym visits strategically around potential additions to the team
  • Identify and create opportunities to activate R.A.D® Training Team members and athletes within community events
  • Aligned to the broader seeding strategy, ensure key community members are provided with relevant R.A.D® product at the right moments
  • Provide support for larger R.A.D® events as required

  • Quarterly personal training allowance
  • A small team doing something real—building a community-led brand from the ground up, in a space that matters.
