Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation to all assigned worksites, trainings and meetings required
  • The Nutritionist must have a Bachelor of Science degree in an approved program in Nutritional Sciences or Nutrition & Dietetics with a DPD Verification Statement.
  • Bilingual in Enlgish and Spanish (required)

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience in counseling for the needs of pregnancy, lactation, infancy, and early childhood is preferable.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a comprehensive nutrition assessment in order to determine an applicant's eligibility for program benefits including the collection of anthropometric, hematological, dietary, health, income and residency data. Identifies appropriate risk and related issues.
  • Develops and documents an assessment and plan of care for all WIC participants based on the nutrition assessment.
  • Provides nutrition education responsive to the identified needs and interests of participants.
  • Prescribes the authorized supplemental foods based on nutrition needs and participant preferences.
  • Refers participants as appropriate to other nutrition/health or social services agencies.
  • Documents in the WIC computer system all eligibility data, nutrition risk, assessment and plan of care, nutrition education contacts, assigned food packages and appropriate referrals.
  • Instructs participants on WIC Program rules, right and obligation.
  • Conduct outreach activities as assigned by the senior nutritionist to explain the purpose of the program to staff, participants, other health professionals and the public in order to facilitate understanding, program participation and the development of referral systems.
  • Acts as a resource person on topics concerning nutrition and health for other Norwescap programs and agencies in the community.
  • Responsible for compliance with all Federal Regulations, New Jersey Department of Health and Norwescap policies and procedures in the performance of jobs duties.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the WIC Program Director or Senior Nutritionist.
