About The Position

This full-time position at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in the Food and Nutrition department is responsible for providing high-quality patient service. Key duties include assembling and distributing patient trays, delivering nourishments and floor stock, and interacting with patients and nursing staff to ensure dietary needs are met accurately and efficiently. The role requires attention to dietary restrictions, food allergies, and patient preferences, while maintaining a professional demeanor and contributing to a positive patient experience. The position also involves temperature monitoring for food safety and participation in training and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED
  • 6 months in customer service field/office
  • Good Computer skills and able to navigate on computer
  • Good communication skills
  • Detail and results orientated

  • Mathematical competence
  • Ability to communicate effectively; written and verbal
  • Ability to speak, read and write English clearly and proficiently
  • Have a neat and professional appearance
  • Constant hearing and seeing
  • Frequent bending, keying, reaching, speaking, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, kneeling and smelling
  • Ability to move 50 pounds (superseded by direct patient care lifting requirement)
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance for direct patient care

Responsibilities

  • Assembles patient trays according to menu selections, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Complies with dietary restrictions, modified diets, and monitors food allergies.
  • Delivers meal carts and patient trays to assigned nursing areas, verifying diet and meal accuracy.
  • Retrieves patient trays.
  • Delivers nourishments and floor stock to assigned units.
  • Takes patient menu selections, confirms needs, and discusses delivery times with nursing staff.
  • Offers alternatives to menu selections as allowed by prescribed diets.
  • Interacts with nursing to ensure diet orders are accurate and patient food needs are met.
  • Resolves patient concerns or complaints immediately or reports to supervisor.
  • Maintains accurate patient information.
  • Assists dieticians with monitoring patients on specific diets (NPO, liquid, calorie count).
  • Utilizes patient care systems for patient information.
  • Delivers patient trays following communication protocols.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, nursing, and other departments.
  • Assists with training other associates.
  • Attends scheduled huddles, in-services, and meetings.
  • Participates in QA/CQI documentation processes.
  • Takes and documents temperatures of steam table items and menu receipt/tray departure times.
  • Receives, fills, and delivers patient tray items.
  • Attends orientation and area-specific meetings.
  • Learns and applies CQI principles to ensure customer satisfaction.
