About The Position

This part-time position is responsible for providing high-quality patient service in assembling, distributing, and retrieving patient trays, as well as delivering nourishments and floor stock. The role involves interacting with patients, nursing staff, and other department associates to ensure patient needs are met accurately and efficiently, while adhering to dietary restrictions and hospital policies. The Nutritional Assistant plays a key role in guest relations and maintaining a positive patient experience.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED
  • 6 months in customer service field/office
  • Good Computer skills and able to navigate on computer

Responsibilities

  • Assembles patient trays according to menu selections and dietary restrictions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Delivers meal carts and patient trays to assigned nursing areas, verifying diet and meal accuracy at the point of service.
  • Retrieves patient trays and meal carts.
  • Delivers nourishments and floor stock to assigned patients and units.
  • Takes patient menu selections, confirms needs/requests, and discusses delivery times with nursing or department associates.
  • Assists patients with opening containers and removing lids as needed.
  • Communicates incorrect or missing items to the kitchen and patient needs to nursing.
  • Maintains professional appearance and follows department uniform policy.
  • Demonstrates a caring attitude and responds positively to requests to maximize the dining experience.
  • Assists with training of other associates.
  • Attends scheduled huddles, in-services, and meetings, and participates in QA/CQI documentation.
  • Takes and documents temperatures of steam table items, menu receipt, and tray delivery times.
  • Completes annual CBTs and attends orientation and area-specific meetings.
  • Learns and applies CQI principles to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Utilizes "Just for You" call system and Care Connection/CBord information for patient care.
  • Delivers patient trays properly following the AIDET script.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, nursing, guest service representatives, and tray line associates.
  • Communicates special patient needs to dieticians and diet clerks.
  • Assists dietician with monitoring patients on NPO, liquid diets, or calorie counts.
  • Offers alternatives to menu selections as allowed on prescribed diets.
  • Interacts with nursing to ensure patients' diet orders are accurate and food needs are met.
  • Resolves patient concerns or complaints immediately or reports to supervisor.
  • Maintains accurate information for each patient.
