About The Position

The Nutrition & Wellness School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) Intern position is a temporary role within the Nutrition & Wellness Department. The intern will provide support to food service activities across the department and at assigned school locations. Key responsibilities include food preparation, providing written documentation, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local health, safety, and nutrition guidelines. This position reports to the Director of Nutrition & Wellness.

Requirements

Basic math skills, including calculations with fractions, percents, and/or ratios

Responsibilities

Monitors, cleans, and maintains all areas of storage, food preparation, and food serving lines to ensure safe and sanitary conditions.
Assists with inspections of food and supply deliveries to verify quantity, quality, and specifications of orders and compliance with health requirements.
Supports management, substitute personnel, student workers, and volunteers in daily kitchen operations.
Serves food items to meet mandated nutritional requirements.
Stocks food and supplies to maintain adequate quantities and security.
Supervises kitchen staff and satellite kitchen staff, including orientation, training, and evaluation, to ensure productivity, adequate coverage, and compliance with health, safety, and nutritional standards.
Supports assigned personnel, student workers, and volunteers in resolving problems and performing their functions safely and efficiently.
Participates in department meetings, in-service trainings, and workshops.
Performs functions of other nutritional services positions as needed to ensure adequate staff coverage.
Prepares various documentation, including sales transactions, inventories, production records, and presentations, for compliance and information sharing.
Processes free/reduced applications to comply with federal guidelines for the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
