About The Position

Under the direction of the Cafeteria Manager, Transport Manager or designee, assist in the preparation and serving of high-quality, nutritious meals, as well as cleanup in the time allotted, for the purpose of ensuring a high-quality, self-supporting program which meets budgeted annual revenues and supports the nutritional well-being of students as part of the education process. Responsible for interacting with kitchen and school staff, students and the public, in a cooperative and professional manner. Hours/Day: 3, 1 additional her per day may be available due to the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Grant Continuing Role Daily Start/End times: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
  • Exhibit ability to meet the requirements of Prep Worker level by achieving minimum scores on appropriate interview and/or test.
  • Demonstrate Knowledge of and Ability to Utilize: Basic kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Rules of proper food safety and sanitation.
  • Proper portion control methods.
  • USDA rules and regulations for Nutrition Services program.
  • Nutrition Services Department policies and procedures.
  • Fundamentals of HACCP procedures.
  • Nutrition Services/Health Department Requirement: Obtain and possess a valid Food Handler's Permit.
  • Hepatitis A vaccination or waiver.
  • Current fingerprint record on file.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate is required, as is ability to understand verbal and written directions and possess basic mathematical skills as well as ability to read measuring devices.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds without assistance.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift overhead and stand for extended periods of time; requires the use of both hands.
  • General computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Satisfactory completion of approved Safety/Sanitation class, preferred.
  • Knowledge of some simple procedures or work activity is helpful.
  • The basic job can be learned in one week to one month; there is some variety, but procedures are largely repetitive. Job proficiency can be acquired in one month.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for knowing and following procedures, policies, and requirements of the Nutrition Services program and Spokane Public Schools.
  • Actively participate in and assist with meal preparation, meal service, and cleanup following established food safety/sanitation and program procedures.
  • Assist in receiving and storing food and supplies according to established procedures.
  • May be asked to transport food to other school locations.
  • Successfully complete classes required for position and attend meetings, and/or workshops related to position.
  • May be required to assist with opening and closing of the kitchen prior to the beginning and after the ending of each school year.
  • Fulfill other related duties as assigned or requested.
