About The Position

This position is for a Nutrition Services Manager at an elementary school, working 8 hours per day during the school term. The role involves coordinating daily kitchen operations, ensuring adherence to USDA guidelines, managing inventory and ordering, upholding safety and sanitation standards, maintaining accurate records, collaborating with other staff, training kitchen personnel, overseeing sales and finances, fostering positive relationships, promoting nutrition education, managing staff timekeeping and absences, handling catering events, participating in district committees, and contributing to student well-being and a collaborative kitchen environment. The position also emphasizes continuous improvement and professional growth.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in institutional food service (school food service preferred).
  • Proven ability to lead and work effectively within a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or certification in food and nutrition preferred.
  • ServSafe Certification and Minnesota Food Manager Certificate (both obtainable within one year of employment).
  • Required to complete Level 2 of the Specialized Training Requirements for the SNA Certification Program within two years of employment or have post secondary education in a related field.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 40 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Experience with food service inventory, ordering, receiving, and point-of-sale systems (preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily kitchen operations, including staff scheduling, food preparation, and service, adhering to USDA School Breakfast and Lunch program guidelines.
  • Ensure standardized recipes are followed, and creatively utilize food leftovers to minimize waste.
  • Accurately order and receive food and supplies using the computerized food service management system, maintaining optimal inventory levels.
  • Uphold strict federal, state, and local safety and sanitation standards in all food handling and preparation.
  • Utilize the computerized system to track daily food production, temperature logs, sales reports, and other essential data.
  • Work closely with the Building Chief and Food and Nutrition Coordinator to ensure equipment functionality and address any operational needs.
  • Train and mentor kitchen staff on food preparation, safety protocols, and equipment usage.
  • Oversee school meal and a la carte sales, cash handling, and deposits using the computerized system.
  • Model respect and promote effective communication with students, staff, parents, and the broader school community.
  • Promote healthy eating habits within the school and community.
  • Manage staff time keeping and absences, call in substitutes, and manage catering events.
  • Participate in District 196 Nutrition Services committees, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Directly contribute to the positive development and health of students by ensuring access to nutritious and appealing meals.
  • Cultivate and maintain a supportive and cooperative atmosphere within the nutrition services team and throughout the school.
  • Actively engage in opportunities for ongoing training and development to enhance skills and advance within the school nutrition services field.
  • Play a vital role in creating a thriving school environment by championing healthy eating habits and contributing to overall student wellness.
