About The Position

The unit manager is responsible for the daily operation of a school kitchen. This is an at-will employee position during the school term (9-month Nutrition Services calendar), with a work schedule of 35-40 hours weekly.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years experience in school food service or a related area.
  • Ability to learn computerized cashiering
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to pass ServSafe Certification exam
  • Ability to relate positively with others
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Provide clear and complete instruction, Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English; Write simple correspondence; Communicate one on one and in small groups; Maintain appropriate relationships with students and coworkers.
  • Add, subtract multiply and divide and perform those operations using units of US Currency, and weight, volume and distance measurements.
  • Comprehend and follow detailed but basic written or oral instructions; Solve simple problems with few variables in stable conditions.
  • Operate a computerized cash register, department specific software and Microsoft outlook.
  • Frequently walk short distances, continuously stand, frequently bend or twist at the neck and torso, continuously grip, Frequently reach, stoop, kneel and crouch, frequently lift 10-25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, frequently use close and peripheral vision.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates employees
  • Creates a work schedule to maintain efficiency and cost effectiveness
  • Orders, accepts deliveries, stores, and prepares food supplies
  • Controls quantity and quality of food prepared
  • Uses and maintains food service equipment in safe and sanitary surroundings
  • Report unsafe procedures or circumstances to kitchen supervisor
  • Follows and uses HACCP and SOP guidelines
  • Maintains inventory and food usage records
  • Serves as liaison between Nutrition Services Department, student, faculty, and parent/guardians
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned by kitchen supervisor to meet the needs of the Nutrition Services program
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance
  • Attends scheduled manager’s meetings
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.
