About The Position

Augusta Health is seeking a Nutrition Services Assistant to join their Patient Services team. This full-time role involves greeting patients, delivering meal trays, assisting with meal tray setup, and performing customer service. The position also includes picking up trays, operating the dishwasher, delivering clean dishes, and performing cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, and trash disposal. Responsibilities may extend to assisting in food preparation like salads and desserts, assembling meals on trays, and maintaining the cleanliness of the tray line. Some roles may involve taking patient meal orders, performing office duties like data entry, and potentially driving a company vehicle to deliver meals to outer buildings. This role is supervised by various management positions within Nutrition Services and is crucial for supporting Augusta Health’s mission and departmental goals through performance indicators and service excellence. The position contributes to a collaborative, patient-centered environment and drives outcomes aligned with organizational priorities. Shifts include 6:00 PM - 2:30 AM and 11:30 AM - 8:00 PM, with every other weekend required.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Delivers meal trays directly to patient areas as specified.
  • Assists patients with meal tray setup.
  • Performs customer service and service recovery skills.
  • Picks up trays from patient areas at designated times.
  • Tends and loads the dishwasher.
  • Delivers clean dishes and utensils to proper kitchen areas.
  • May pre-wash certain items by hand, such as pots and pans.
  • May sweep and mop floors, dispose of trash and garbage as needed.
  • Performs cleaning duties included in job flow as well as those assigned by supervisor.
  • Assists in preparing items such as salads, desserts, or nourishment.
  • Assembles prepared food on trays for patients—regular and modified diets.
  • Maintains the tray line in a clean, neat, and orderly manner.
  • May call patients for meal orders as well as taking orders from patients.
  • May perform office-related duties such as entering patient meals, snacks, and supplements, and generating reports.
  • May deliver meals to outer buildings on campus by driving a company vehicle.
  • Follows proper delivery procedures to ensure patient safety.
  • Checks dish machine temperatures before processing dishes to ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures.
  • Follows dishwashing procedures.
  • Uses proper chemicals correctly in dishwashing and sanitizing.
  • Follows proper dish pulling procedures.
  • Consistently checks clean dishes to ensure all particles are removed.
  • Cleans lowerators and dish carts before loading with clean dishes.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use and clean all necessary food service equipment.
  • Disposes of trash periodically throughout the shift.
  • Follows policies and procedures related to food service.
  • Properly dates, labels leftovers, and stores them in the proper place.
  • Demonstrates recipe adherence and is knowledgeable of allergens and diet restrictions.
  • Observes Universal Precautions.
  • Ensures all items are ready and in reach once the tray line begins.
  • Follows cleaning schedules and completes cleaning tasks.
  • Communicates efficiently while answering and making phone calls to patients or staff.
  • Follows proper procedures related to administrative duties.
  • Adheres to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Follows driving laws while transporting patient meal trays.
