About The Position

This role serves as both a Nutrition Aide and an Academic Aide. As a Nutrition Aide, the individual will be responsible for serving food items to students and maintaining sanitary facilities under the direction of a supervisor. As an Academic Aide, the individual will tutor and assist students in various academic areas, individually or in small groups, and may substitute as needed. This position may be partially or fully funded by federal or state compensatory education funds.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a high school or a GED program desired.
  • Ability to work with others and take directions.
  • Possess basic record keeping skills in counting students accepting lunch.
  • Ability to follow guidance of the teacher and administrators.
  • Attention to detail in completing financial records.
  • Ability to stand for at least an hour.
  • Type and use a computer for spreadsheet and word processing, as requested.
  • Able to sit or walk for extended time.
  • Demonstrate appropriate etiquette in dealing with others.
  • Obtain Educational Aide certification during the first year of employment.
  • May be required to provide a health certificate (Nutrition aides).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of state curriculum preferred.
  • Experienced or certified aide preferred.
  • Ability to give and receive clear directions in English and in Spanish (desired).

Responsibilities

  • Work independently under the guidance of staff.
  • Communicate directions to students and others.
  • Maintain records in offices, collect funds, record lunch counts, food service inventory, and perform other clerical functions.
  • Monitor students between classes, at the playground, and in other non-instructional settings.
  • Assist students in the development of learning skills.
  • Review and become familiar with textbooks and materials used by students.
  • Assist in academic activities with selected students, either one-on-one or in small groups.
  • Observe and assess students' needs and record relevant data to assess progress.
  • Develop tutorial strategies to help students reach or exceed their expected academic grade level.
  • Comply with the employee handbook and assigned duties, including general clerical tasks, record keeping, and maintaining accurate school lunch attendance and other records.
  • Provide a safe environment.
  • Report any concerns to the Principal/Superintendent.
  • Treat all parents, students, and staff in a considerate and respectful manner.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including acting as a substitute for absent staff.
  • Manage collections of data from staff about student attendance, grades, and transcripts.
  • Manage operations of a campus office.
  • Take directions for managing the workflow of assigned records.
  • Assist with business office operations, accounts payable, and purchase orders.
  • Assist teachers as directed at the school and off-site.
  • Assist other staff and teachers as directed to provide food service delivery.
  • Assist as directed to deliver all food service needs to students.
  • Participate in staff development activities as assigned.
  • Maintain emotional control under the stress of food service operations.
  • Be flexible in assisting others as requested.
  • Participate in professional training.
