About The Position

The Nutrition Educator will promote the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) by recruiting eligible youth and adult participants through community outreach and partnerships. This role involves developing and maintaining positive working relationships with community organizations to coordinate nutrition education programs, communicate program expectations, and support participant success. The educator will deliver engaging, learner-centered nutrition education using approved, evidence-based curricula that are responsive to participants’ age, culture, language, literacy level, and learning needs. Instruction will be delivered through a structured curriculum of at least six lessons per participant group to promote lasting behavior change. The position requires collecting participant information, administering evaluation tools to measure program participation, knowledge gain, and behavior change while maintaining confidentiality, and connecting participants with relevant Extension programs, community resources, and public assistance programs like SNAP. The Nutrition Educator will also represent EFNEP at various events to increase program awareness, strengthen partnerships, and recruit participants. Planning involves scheduling classes, organizing materials, and ensuring classroom logistics. The role requires participation in training and ongoing professional development to enhance nutrition knowledge, teaching practices, cultural responsiveness, technology skills, and program implementation. Travel throughout the assigned county is necessary for program delivery, recruitment, meetings, and trainings, with occasional overnight travel for statewide training. Accurate and timely record-keeping for participants, programs, travel, and administrative tasks is essential, adhering to University, EFNEP, and USDA NIFA requirements. The position also requires achieving and maintaining food safety certification (SafeStaff).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Bilingual (English, Spanish)
  • Criminal background check required

Responsibilities

  • Connects participants with Extension programs, community resources, and public assistance programs, including SNAP, when appropriate.
  • Represents EFNEP at health fairs, community events, and outreach activities to increase program awareness, strengthen partnerships, and recruit participants.
  • Plans and coordinates nutrition education programs by scheduling classes with community partners, organizing instructional materials, supplies and equipment, and ensuring classroom logistics support successful program delivery.
  • Adapts activities to meet participant needs while maintaining fidelity to approved curricula and compliance with program requirements.
  • Participates in orientation, required trainings, and ongoing professional development to strengthen nutrition knowledge, teaching practices, cultural responsiveness, technology skills, and program implementation.
  • Applies supervisor feedback and new learning to improve program quality and participant outcomes.
  • Travels throughout the assigned county to conduct nutrition education programs, recruit participants, and participate in required meetings and trainings.
  • Maintains accurate and timely participant, program, travel, and administrative records in accordance with University, EFNEP, and USDA NIFA requirements.
  • Submits required reports and documentation by established deadlines and protects participant confidentiality.
  • Achieves and maintains food safety certification (SafeStaff).
