About The Position

Clinica Sierra Vista is seeking a Nutrition Educator I to join their WIC program. This role is responsible for conducting nutrition education services to reduce the risk of nutritional deficiencies in the population served. The Nutrition Educator works under the leadership of a Dietitian Supervisor or Nutritionist Supervisor and is expected to provide quality customer service, support breastfeeding, identify patient needs, schedule appointments, issue WIC food benefits, screen clients for WIC eligibility, and document pertinent information. The position also involves participating in case reviews, staff meetings, program planning, community outreach, and adhering to all company policies and confidentiality requirements. For non-WIC encounters, the role includes documenting and submitting billing documents and screening referrals in the Electronic Health Records.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or completion of GED.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid California driver’s license and current automobile insurance.
  • Precise and conscientious about details.
  • Excellent Communication Skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks well.
  • Ability to work well independently and with others.
  • Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) required.
  • Experience or desire to work with low-income families.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified as a Lactation Educator, desirable.
  • Previous nutrient counseling experience desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality customer service to clients and team members with an attitude of helpfulness, dignity and respect.
  • Greets clients and provides general information about WIC and Clinica Sierra Vista services.
  • Obtains nutrition and diet histories of low-risk participants according to established procedures.
  • Weighs and measures participants according to established protocols.
  • Provides education and support of breastfeeding and promote a breastfeeding friendly environment.
  • Identifies patient needs and provide necessary referrals.
  • Schedules appointments and issues WIC food benefits.
  • Screens clients for WIC eligibility, counsel and refer participants as needed.
  • Documents pertinent information in the WIC Program’s Integrated Statewide Information System. WIC Wise system.
  • Participates in case reviews, staff meetings, and program planning as needed.
  • For non-WIC encounters, documents and submits the required billing documents for reimbursement and screens referrals in Electric Health Records.
  • Participate in community outreach and promotional activities.
  • Complies with established Clinica Sierra Vista and WIC policies.
  • Maintains confidentiality and security at all times.
  • Upholds the mission of Clinica Sierra Vista and the WIC Program.
  • Performs other work duties as required.
