About The Position

Harbor’s Edge is a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located alongside the beautiful harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Our community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, a 33-bed (Medicare/private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, a 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 34-bed Memory Support Unit. Harbor’s Edge has been honored by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Senior Living Program as a 2025 “Best” in multiple categories, including Independent Living – Activities & Enrichment, Feels Like Home, and Food & Dining. Additionally, our Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) has been recognized as a “Best” senior living community. We are seeking a highly qualified, part- and full-time Nutrition Care Associates to join our team to assist in delivering excellent care for our residents. The ideal candidates will have senior living experience (e.g., long-term care, assisted living, memory support) with a passion for working with an elderly population. Nutrition Care Associates serve residents in Assisted Living and Memory Support dining rooms and provide tray service in private rooms, supporting the Dining and Catering Department's delivery of high quality service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ year of relevant experience (senior services, long-term care, assisted living, or memory support preferred).
  • Food Handler’s Certification required (provided during orientation); must follow all food safety regulations.
  • Must demonstrate integrity, discretion, and protect resident health information.
  • Strong communication skills; able to read, write, and follow verbal/written instructions accurately and promptly.
  • Compassionate and respectful approach when working with elderly residents; upholds residents’ rights.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, residents, families, visitors, and the public.
  • Must be physically able to assist residents (lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks such as standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and pushing/pulling).
  • Adequate vision and hearing (with correction if needed) to safely perform job duties and assess surroundings.

Responsibilities

  • Post menus. Maintain proper table settings and cleanliness.
  • Prepare plates and trays. Follow menu selections and diet orders. Use judgment and initiative in making last minute diet changes and satisfying residents’ requests. Ensure food served in correct portions and at proper temperature.
  • Serve residents promptly, courteously, and in an orderly manner.
  • After meal service, take remaining dishes to kitchen. Clean tables and chairs. Reset tables for next meal.
  • Maintain records of dietary needs and meal attendance.
  • Demonstrate positive resident relations and facility’s quality care and service standards to residents, families, and guests. Maintain positive, cheerful attitude always.
  • Maintain supplies needed for serving and nutrition.
  • Follow sanitation and safe food handling guidelines.
  • Use Point of Sale system accurately with minimal errors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Attend in-service classes and staff meetings
