About The Position

The Nutrition Assistant Manager serves as the primary operational support leader for one or more KIPP Atlanta Schools nutrition programs and is responsible for ensuring compliance, food safety, audit readiness, documentation accuracy, and operational continuity. Reporting to the Nutrition Manager, this role functions as the designated second-in-command of the campus nutrition team and serves as the formal leadership development pathway into future Nutrition Manager positions. The Nutrition Assistant Manager plays a critical role in maintaining regulatory compliance, managing operational records, supporting food production and service, conducting food safety audits, overseeing inventory processes, and developing frontline nutrition staff. This role provides leadership coverage during manager absences and helps ensure scholars receive safe, nutritious meals delivered with excellence and consistency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in food service, school nutrition, hospitality, culinary operations, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting operational processes, compliance requirements, or team leadership responsibilities.
  • ServSafe Manager Certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, inventory management, and operational procedures.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze operational information and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to food safety, customer service excellence, and scholar wellness.
  • Ability to travel between assigned campuses as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree or coursework in Nutrition, Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Public Health, Food Service Management, or related field.
  • Previous leadership or lead worker experience in a school nutrition program.
  • Experience supporting compliance reviews, audits, inspections, or regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with PrimeroEdge, SchoolCafe, or comparable nutrition management systems.
  • SNA Level 2 Certification or higher.
  • Bilingual communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary backup to the Nutrition Manager and provide operational leadership during manager absences.
  • Support daily food production, meal service, and kitchen operations across assigned campus locations.
  • Assist in coordinating staffing assignments and substitute coverage to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • Monitor meal service execution and ensure compliance with operational standards and campus schedules.
  • Support receiving, stocking, storage, and organization of food and supplies.
  • Assist with point-of-sale operations, meal accountability processes, and daily meal count verification.
  • Progressively assume increased leadership responsibilities through structured professional development and operational ownership.
  • Support implementation of menu changes, special events, and nutrition-related initiatives.
  • Lead campus compliance monitoring efforts and ensure operational readiness for audits, inspections, and reviews.
  • Conduct routine HACCP audits, food safety inspections, and compliance walkthroughs.
  • Maintain accurate records including production records, temperature logs, inventory documentation, training records, and operational reports.
  • Monitor food safety practices, allergen management procedures, sanitation standards, and corrective action implementation.
  • Support USDA, Georgia Department of Education, and local health department compliance requirements.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and organize evidence for regulatory reviews and internal audits.
  • Track equipment concerns, maintenance requests, and corrective action completion.
  • Ensure required compliance postings, notices, certifications, and documentation remain current and visible.
  • Support implementation of workplace safety standards and risk mitigation practices.
  • Train, coach, and support Nutrition Assistants and substitute staff.
  • Reinforce operational procedures, food safety expectations, and documentation requirements.
  • Assist with onboarding and professional development activities.
  • Support inventory management processes including receiving, counting, product accountability, and waste reduction efforts.
  • Assist with invoice verification, inventory reconciliation, and operational reporting.
  • Support resolution of parent, family, scholar, and staff concerns related to nutrition services.
  • Promote a positive, welcoming, and customer-focused dining environment.
  • Build leadership readiness through active participation in the Nutrition Manager development pathway.
