About The Position

Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine’s Working Forward initiative. As such, this position’s work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit’s business needs. The Nursing Workforce Project Manager plays a key role in advancing North Carolina’s statewide nursing workforce strategy by managing the Nursing Workforce Coordinating Council ( NWCC ) and coordinating initiatives across healthcare, education, and government partners. Working closely with the SOM Workforce for Healthcare Director, NC AHEC Director of Education, and other workstream leaders, the position drives project planning, facilitates stakeholder engagement, and translates statewide priorities into coordinated actions, data informed decisions, and measurable outcomes.

Requirements

  • Degree in nursing or equivalent experience in nursing workforce development, health systems, education, or health policy.
  • Demonstrated understanding of North Carolina’s nursing workforce landscape, including key challenges, opportunities, and statewide initiatives.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi stakeholder projects, with strong skills in organization, planning, and prioritization.
  • Experience designing and facilitating meetings with diverse partners, including senior leaders in government, education, and health care.
  • Strong relationship building skills with the ability to cultivate trust and collaboration across sectors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information for varied audiences.
  • Experience in program evaluation, including developing metrics, analyzing data, and reporting findings.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently, with strong interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree in nursing (MSN, DNP, or a related field) is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with data partners to turn workforce data into meaningful, actionable insights.
  • Strong skills in maintaining documentation, managing shared collaboration tools, and supporting knowledge management systems.
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity, transparency, and continuous improvement within North Carolina’s nursing workforce ecosystem.
