About The Position

Central Louisiana State Hospital (CLSH) is seeking applicants for a vacant position in our Nursing Department as a Nursing Unit Aide / Nursing Assistant (Day Shift). This role is vital for delivering quality and effective care to patients within the Behavioral Health community. The position involves creating and maintaining a therapeutic environment for mentally ill and/or substance abuse patients. CLSH is committed to cooperative work with other state agencies and mental health programs to ensure integrated and coordinated hospital-community services. Requirements

  • No experience or training required.
  • Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require that applicants possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains accountability of patients and awareness of patients’ whereabouts at all times, reporting and documenting appropriately during assigned 12-hour shift.
  • Assist in the management of aggressive behavior, utilizing therapeutic intervention techniques.
  • Utilizes safety interventions to apply physical restraints.
  • Observes, provides care, reports, and documents patients’ special precautions according to hospital policy.
  • Interacts with patients as a therapeutic function.
  • Observes and reports the condition of patients to professional staff.
  • Conducts and facilitates groups in therapeutic activities such as unit meetings and work or activity therapies.
  • Supervises patients engaged in planned daily activities.
  • Communicates pertinent information regarding patients, employees, visitors, unit personnel, etc. to supervisors or other authorized persons in accordance with policy.
  • Participates in shift change reports and attends patient staffing conferences and treatment team meetings.
  • Performs routine nursing duties such as taking vital signs, weighing patients, collecting and labeling urine and lab specimens or drug screens.
  • Documents on patients’ charts concerning behavioral observations, vital signs, symptoms, accidents, injuries, etc.
  • Assists or performs all other paraprofessional nursing duties for the provision of patient care.

  • Longevity pay starting at $1.00 per hour
