Nursing Support Assistant (NSA), Supplemental Staff- Full-Time, Night
About The Position
As a Nursing Support Assistant (NSA) in the Supplemental Staff (Float) Department at UChicago Medicine, you will perform assigned supportive work related to patient care, including functional tasks and skills. This is a 100% onsite position, requiring you to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. You will support the daily functions and operations of a patient care unit and healthcare team. In a sitter capacity, you will provide continuous observation and accurate documentation of assigned patient activities to promote safety and quality care. You will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse and demonstrate flexibility by floating to all inpatient adult and pediatric units, including both Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and is listed on the HCWR
- Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs.
Responsibilities
- Provides basic patient care activities including vital signs, enemas and basic tests such as glucoscan, hemacult and multistix
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, as appropriate/assigned, using proper aseptic, isolation, and infection control techniques in performance of duties
- Assist patients with personal hygiene, ambulation and nourishment/fluids
- Completes procedures as assigned, such as collecting patient specimens and weighing patients
- Assists with discharge and transfer preparation of patients
- Assists in the maintenance of the patient environment makes patient beds, tidies patient room, and prepares patient room for admission and transfer
- Assists with the maintenance of supplies/equipment and the environment
- Communicates and accurately documents activities onto the proper records or logs
- Initiates CPR and calls Dr. Cart
- Performs receptionist duties for assigned area as requested
