About The Position

The Nursing Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the nursing staff, including nurses, medical assistants, interpreters, and referral staff to ensure that high-quality patient care is delivered efficiently and safely. This role provides leadership, guidance, and support to staff while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations, clinic policies and procedures, and patient care standards. This position also promotes effective communication among providers, staff, and patients. Requirements

  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and to prioritize tasks to provide appropriate, efficient and quality patient care.
  • Effective and efficient time management.
  • Ability to work independently and use good judgement.
  • Ability to read and write using English format.
  • Considerable interpersonal skills and judgment must be demonstrated in all interactions with external entities and to coordinate patient care.
  • Valid RN Kansas Nursing License
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • 2-3 years’ experience as a nurse in a medical clinic
  • Must have and maintain CPR certification
  • Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient and employee-base.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Nursing degree
  • 5+ years in a medical clinic setting
  • Previous FQHC experience preferred
  • 2-3 years prior supervisory experience as a charge nurse, nursing supervisor, or other leadership role
  • Current certification as a BLS Instructor

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the nursing area, which includes direct supervision of LPN’s, RN’s, medical assistants, interpreters, and referral staff.
  • Conducting staff evaluations
  • Managing time off requests
  • Managing the daily schedule
  • Providing clear constructive feedback to staff
  • Addressing staff performance issues in conjunction with HR
  • Ensuring adequate clinical coverage
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • In collaboration with HR, participates in the hiring, training, and orientation of all new staff members and works to develop each staff member in a positive way, leading by example.
  • Ensure quality patient care and adherence to clinical standards.
  • Recommends changes to improve quality and delivery of care. Seeks staff input and develops and implements processes to enhance clinic operations and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain policies, procedures, and protocols for nursing department in collaboration with the Human Resources and Compliance Supervisor.
  • Work closely with the Clinical Informaticist, Clinical Quality Supervisor, Chief Medical Officer, and Lab & X-ray Supervisor.
  • Address patient concerns and assist with conflict resolution as needed.
  • Acts as a BLS instructor for the organization.
  • Coordinate services between departments.
  • Establish workflow, procedures, and operational improvements in the nursing area.
  • Manage activities in a cost-effective, fiscally responsible manner.
  • Responsible management of nursing budget.
  • Perform as a clinical nurse as situations warrant. Respond appropriately in emergent situation.
  • Participate in meetings as required (joint staff, department, Leadership, Compliance and Performance Improvement Committee, Clinical Providers, etc.)
  • Integrate the residency’s mission into all aspects of clinical care.
  • Work with the clinical team to promote continuity of patient care with the primary care providers.
  • Strive to optimize resident education.
  • Assure that nursing assistance is promptly and readily available whenever needed by a resident physician or other healthcare provider.
  • Promote a supportive learning environment for residents, medical students, nursing staff, office staff and new employees.
  • Assist with resident evaluations and communicate with the Program Director regarding physician performance.
  • May function as a liaison with outside residency-oriented organizations.
  • Participate in resident/faculty meetings as requested.
  • Facilitate privileging of nursing staff.
  • Participate in outcomes measurements/chart audits metrics, including review of clinical documentation and PCMH and Healthcare Plan performance measures.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities related to documentation and patient care to support accuracy, compliance, and high-quality service delivery.
  • Act as liaison with community partners when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
