About The Position

The Primary Job Purpose is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the care center neighborhoods. The Nursing Supervisor will practice the Values, the Mission, and Philosophy of Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center and adhere to the MOSES program. This role involves reviewing the 24-hour report, attending shift reports, making rounds, conferring with charge nurses, and communicating with physicians regarding resident conditions. The supervisor will also assist with lab results, new admissions, physical assessments, and clinical documentation. They will serve as a nursing resource, maintain a safe environment, and ensure nursing duties and equipment are in working order. This position is responsible for replacing nursing team members during call-ins when the Director of Nursing or CNA Supervisor is not present, providing leadership in emergencies, and delegating duties appropriately. Additionally, the role includes assisting with personnel evaluations, wound care assessment, supporting charge nurses, and potentially other duties assigned by the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing. The supervisor will also implement vaccination programs and prepare discharge documents.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Currently licensed as a registered nurse in Colorado.
  • Possesses bedside skills needed to provide quality care and to supervise care given by others.
  • Has a good working knowledge of general nursing principles and techniques including geriatric and rehabilitative nursing, with some supervisory and decision-making experience.
  • Has the knowledge, ability and the willingness to assist in orientation of new team members and the continuing education of the nursing team.
  • Understands the Eden Alternative Principles and is able to lead others in implementing person-directed care.
  • Ability to manage time and resources effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers.
  • Maintain punctuality when reporting to work and leaving work.
  • Must demonstrate the willingness and ability to learn and perform all duties required by the Nursing Department.
  • Ability to work and converse in a polite manner with neighbors, their families, co-workers, and others associated with the position on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the care center neighborhoods.
  • Review 24-hour report/communications in EMR and update the report for the interdisciplinary team.
  • Attend neighborhood shift report daily, noting status changes of neighbors.
  • Make rounds at the beginning of shift, evaluating critical and problem areas and acquiring information to apprise physicians.
  • Confer with charge nurse to accumulate further knowledge of areas that need addressed by supervisor or physician, report and record same.
  • Apprise physician of neighbors’ condition and receive direction for both acute and chronic ailments.
  • Assist Neighborhood Charge Nurse’s to assess lab results and notify physician as necessary and post lab results to neighbor charts.
  • Receive new admissions.
  • Perform or co-sign neighbor physical assessment.
  • Notify physician of admission and assume responsibility for receiving and initiating all orders.
  • Be available to physician to make rounds and assist Neighborhood Charge Nurses to record and initiate new orders.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using the computer for all clinical documentation and complete assessments timely and accurately.
  • Accurately and concisely document in the patients’ health record findings, instructions and services rendered.
  • Be available as a nursing resource person for Charge Nurses, CNA’s and other departments.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable and pleasant environment within the nursing department by encouraging adherence to established standards and promoting cooperation with other departments.
  • Note appearance of rooms.
  • Assure that nursing duties are completed and that equipment is in working condition and in compliance with recognized standards.
  • Remove expired and discontinued medications from the med room and assure that CNA and EA duties are completed.
  • Be responsible for replacing nursing team member call-ins when Director of Nursing or CNA Supervisor is not present.
  • Provide leadership in emergency situations through assessment and team member delegation and notify the neighbor’s family and physician as necessary.
  • Delegate only those duties which can be safely and legally delegated.
  • Assist with periodic evaluation of auxiliary personnel.
  • Assist Neighborhood Charge Nurse’s to assess, monitor, and document wound care.
  • Support and assist the charge nurses in supervision of team members, conflict resolution, and efficient daily operation of the neighborhood.
  • Implement and provide neighbor and employee vaccination programs.
  • Prepare discharge documents and review and complete discharge checklist.
  • Participate in Eben Ezer committees (Non-Essential).
  • Attend facility meetings and department meetings as instructed (Non-Essential).
