About The Position

The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for managing the daily operations of the nursing units to ensure efficient and effective patient care. This role involves overseeing unit functions, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and standards, and addressing clinical and customer service issues. The supervisor will manage physician calls, investigate clinical events, conduct observations and audits, and provide guidance on staff competencies. Collaboration with other departments and maintaining communication with the Director of Nursing are key aspects of this position. Additionally, the supervisor will be involved in disciplinary procedures, staff goal setting, performance reviews, and ensuring adequate stocking of supplies and equipment. Monitoring staffing levels to meet required ratios and minimize overtime is also a critical responsibility. Proficiency in specific nursing skills and basic computer skills for scheduling and documentation is required.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the field
  • Valid State of Florida Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Valid BLS CPR Certification
  • Background screening through the Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse

Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily operations effectively to successfully exchange shift duties with the next supervisor.
  • Oversee the functions of the unit and ensure that they are operating efficiently.
  • Supervise nursing units based on the policies, procedures, objectives, and standards of the department and the organization.
  • Accountable for the delivery of excellent customer service throughout the house and for increasing customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure guidance and implementation of individual unit goals.
  • Assist in addressing all patients', residents', and families' clinical and customer service issues.
  • Assist with the daily function of the units to ensure the effectiveness of operations.
  • Manage calls to the on-call physician for clinical concerns, labs, and unusual events; follow up on orders given.
  • Initiate and ensure investigations are completed on any concerning clinical events, assisting the nurse as needed.
  • Perform observations, audits, and reporting to ensure compliance with clinical protocols and regulations.
  • Manage interventions where necessary regarding staff compliance with skill competencies (i.e., training and education on skill sets).
  • Interact and coordinate with other departments to ensure quality resident care.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Director of Nursing (DON) regarding problems, concerns, and operational issues affecting residents and/or staff within the assigned unit.
  • Provide progressive disciplinary procedures when needed.
  • Meet with staff regularly to review goals for each unit and assist in problem-solving.
  • Meet with Unit Managers (UM) monthly to discuss issues/concerns with the units.
  • Provide feedback and input to Unit Managers regarding employee performance to complete performance reviews.
  • Ensure all units are appropriately stocked with required equipment and supplies and verify that all items are functioning and operating properly to support safe and effective resident care.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate staffing levels to meet required ratios while proactively managing schedules to minimize or avoid overtime.
  • Proficient with skill sets (for example, IV therapy and extensive wound care).
  • Proficient in basic computer skills to act as a resource to staff, as well as managing the electronic schedule.
  • Demonstrate productivity and efficiency in documentation while maintaining clear, timely, and professional communication.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
