About The Position

Grandview Kids provides specialized programs, rehabilitation services, and outpatient clinical treatments to children and youth with physical, communication, and developmental needs. These services are delivered at the Centre, in the community, at schools, and in-home, encompassing medical consultation, assessment, diagnosis, audiology, autism support, complex care, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, respite services, social work, speech-language pathology, therapeutic recreation, and family engagement. The organization also engages in research to support innovation in rehabilitation science. This specific position is for a Nursing Student to work at their summer camps for children and youth aged 4-12 with physical, communication, and developmental needs, held at their Ajax location. Under the general direction of the Program Manager, Inclusive Recreation, the Summer Camp Nursing Student will provide and assist with client’s personal care, ensuring dignity and safety. This role also involves working in a team environment, assisting with camp activities, supporting departmental/Centre efforts in Quality Management (QM) activities, participating in education, orientation, and public relations as required, and maintaining a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a nursing post-secondary diploma or baccalaureate program
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Experience working with children and youth with special needs
  • Experience working in a camp setting
  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment (due to Canada Summer Jobs Funding Program eligibility)
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada (due to Canada Summer Jobs Funding Program eligibility)
  • Superior communicator, both written and verbal
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with families and all levels of staff
  • Commitment to family-centred care
  • Passion for working with others to support children to achieve their personal best

Responsibilities

  • Toileting and diaper changes
  • Lifts and transfers of dependent clients
  • Feeding – both oral and g-tube
  • Administering medication and providing first aid if required
  • Submitting incident reports when required
  • Other duties as assigned
