About The Position

The Nurse Extern II position provides a transitional role for nursing students in good standing with an accredited registered nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse program, and functions to assist with and provide quality nursing care. This includes patient care; reporting patient status updates, conditions or unusual circumstances to nurse in charge; maintaining equipment and pristine units, and operating medical devices. This position gains clinical experience by learning nursing procedures and various disease processes, familiarizing themselves to the hospital environment and interacting with physicians and other healthcare provides. This position is responsible for providing direct patient care activities appropriate to training and competency for assigned patients and for completing and assisting RN/LPN/LVN with assigned patient care activities while promoting excellent patient satisfaction and outcomes.

Requirements

  • BLS (CPR) required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Part-time or full-time active student status.
  • Successful entrance into the final term of a professional registered nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse program.
  • Currently enrolled and in good academic standing in a professional Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse program.
  • Provide evidence of completion of didactic/skills lab must include fundamentals, if not currently a Nurse Extern I.
  • Return of one or two (if available) instructor evaluations indicating satisfactory performance of fundamental nursing skills.
  • Successful completion of preceptor tool and core competency at 90 days and annually.
  • Present proof of continued enrollment and passing grade in nursing classes each semester until graduation and remain in good academic standing.
  • Must be able to speak and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience in inpatient clinical setting preferred.
