About The Position

The University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank Campus is looking for a Nursing Station Technician to join their team. This role is on the Neuroscience unit, providing care to adult patients with complex medical conditions including neurological, neurosurgical, ENT, and trauma patients. The unit utilizes advanced monitoring technology and manages complex medication and infusion therapies. Patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on the unit are also cared for. This position is .5 FTE (20 hours per week) with evening shifts (3:00pm-11:30pm), working 8-hour shifts. This position is benefit-eligible. The Nursing Station Technician is a hybrid role combining Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties. Working under the direct supervision of a professional nurse, the technician will provide direct patient care and perform administrative tasks, demonstrating excellent customer service, teamwork, and communication skills. Responsibilities include patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding. Administrative duties involve maintaining the unit desk, answering phones, processing admissions/discharges/transfers, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts, ordering tests, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and ordering/stocking supplies.

Requirements

  • Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician).
  • OR Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
  • OR Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
  • Exceptional communication skills such as clear speech, ability to read, legible handwriting, and strong computer skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, and hospital procedures is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience.

Responsibilities
