About The Position

The nursing skills lab and simulation technician supports clinical education in the Froelich School of Nursing by preparing, operating, and maintaining low and high-fidelity simulation equipment, supporting realistic scenarios using technology and props, and troubleshooting technical issues for faculty and students. Key responsibilities include equipment and supplies setup, software programming for physiological responses, moulage application, technical support, data collection, equipment maintenance, and assisting with lab scheduling and inventory. Strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication are essential for this role. Simulation technicians are vital for creating realistic and effective training environments for nursing students. By managing the technical aspects of simulation, they ensure students can practice critical skills, improve teamwork, and develop clinical judgment in a safe, controlled setting before working with real patients.

Requirements

  • Expertise in operating and maintaining sophisticated simulation equipment, including computerized mannequins, task trainers, and audiovisual systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues with equipment and software efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Meticulous in record-keeping, maintaining equipment, and preparing supplies.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing equipment and software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology is often preferred or required.
  • Strong customer service skills to support a positive learning environment.
  • Eligible for unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts.

  • Medical Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology is often preferred or required.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, test, and maintain patient simulators, task trainers, and related multimedia equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on simulators, computers, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Support director and faculty in adjusting program simulator software to create physiological responses and interventions.
  • Utilize audio/video technology, programming, props, and moulage (special effects makeup) to develop realistic learning environments.
  • Provide technical support to faculty and students, troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, and assist with technology and simulation best practices.
  • Manage lab schedules, prepare for skills labs and simulations, maintain equipment and supply inventories, assist with purchasing decisions for new equipment and software, and ensure the lab operates efficiently.
  • Collect and maintain data from simulation activities for analysis and research purposes.
  • Assist with orientations and tours for admissions, prospective students, external stakeholders, faculty and students, and provide training on the use of simulation equipment.
