About The Position

NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island is seeking a Nursing Quality Specialist to support the quality and safety programs within the Department of Nursing. This role involves providing quality improvement facilitation and support to nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams. The specialist will assist the Director of Nursing Quality with assessing learning needs related to quality and performance improvement, and with providing education and mentoring in continuous quality improvement methods. Responsibilities include monitoring regulatory compliance, identifying improvement opportunities, and assisting patient care units with developing and implementing improvement strategies. The role also involves assisting with benchmarking activities with organizations like the National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and the University Healthsystem Consortium (UHC). The position fosters a culture aligned with NYU Langone Health's mission and emphasizes collaboration, patient satisfaction, and evidence-based practice.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State
  • Master's degree in nursing
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and/or Certified Professional Patient Safety (CPPS) upon eligibility
  • Ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion to address patient/family satisfaction and quality indicators.
  • Evidence of excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, organization, critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership skills.
  • Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association
  • Three to five years of clinical experience in a specialty area, or combination of staff nurse/leadership experience in the specialty area.

  • Maintains clinical and functional expertise.
  • Supports evidence-based practice by assisting nursing staff in development of process standards that are consistent with evidence-based literature, regulatory requirements, and pertinent professional nursing standards.
  • Collaborates and supports the Director of Nursing Quality in the provision of education to various levels of nursing staff in the use of performance improvement methodologies applicable to nursing quality.
  • Establishes collaborative relationships with nursing staff, leadership, medical staff, and other administrative staff.
  • Collaborates with nursing leadership in development of presentations, reports and publication of quality and safety program outcomes.
  • Provides support for quality improvement teams including arranging meetings, providing minutes, managing project timelines, and preparing reports.
  • Supports the organizations journey toward achieving and maintaining Magnet Recognition.
  • Leading quality improvement initiatives, collecting and analyzing data, collaborating with nursing leadership to meet the empirical outcomes and standards required by the Magnet framework.
  • Supports unit-based leadership by developing tools to monitor outcomes at the unit level and develop quality initiatives that reflect their specialty that achieve evidence-based practice.
  • Reviews and evaluates occurrences related to nursing care reported through the electronic occurrence system related to nursing care.
  • Assists with review and development of interdisciplinary and interdepartmental structure standards, process and outcome standards in conjunction with other nursing leadership.
  • Participates in RCAs, FMEAs, ACAs and assists in implementation and monitoring of corrective action plan.
