About The Position

The Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to join their team at the Alwyn C. Cashe State Veterans' Nursing Home in Orlando, Florida. This position is responsible for overseeing the Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessment process for residents to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements. The role involves participating in resident level of care determinations, reviewing MDS assessments, analyzing quality indicator reports, and collaborating with various departments and healthcare professionals. The incumbent will also maintain confidentiality, adhere to infection control procedures, and ensure resident safety.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Valid CPR card
  • At least (6) years of professional nursing experience? (A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in nursing or a related field and two (2) years of nursing experience or possess an associate degree and have four (4) years of professional nursing experience.)
  • Successful completion of the employment screening to include, but not limited to, a national background check and drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year experience working in a long-term care facility with a geriatric population
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, especially Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Basic experience and familiarity with MDS
  • Experience conducting RAI-MDS assessments and compiling data reports based on those assessments
  • MDS Certification

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling and/or overseeing scheduling of all resident MDS assessments to assure timeliness.
  • Coordinating and overseeing all functions of the MDS assessment process to ensure compliance with Federal and State requirements.
  • Participating in resident level of care determination upon admission.
  • Tracking changes in residents’ level of care to assure timely scheduling of MDS assessments.
  • Being familiar with residents’ condition and care needs.
  • Reviewing all MDS assessments and related forms to certify timely completion by signing the MDS forms on the appropriate sections.
  • Reviewing reports of timely completion of residents’ MDS assessments and care plans and taking follow-up action as necessary.
  • Participating in the Quality Assessment and Assurance Program, in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Coordinator.
  • Analyzing Quality Indicator reports for potential resident concerns and problems and reviewing residents’ care plans to be sure this information is included.
  • Conducting and/or participating in interdisciplinary team and rehabilitation conference meetings.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information.
  • Completing reports and assignments accurately and adhering to established time schedules.
  • Establishing open lines of communication between all departments.
  • Observing infection control procedures relating to Nursing services.
  • Working cooperatively with administration, Nursing Service Personnel, Physicians, community agencies, residents, families, and Consultants.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing Service.
  • Performing all duties assigned in a cooperative, effective, timely, and professional manner.
  • Being responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision.
  • Maintaining current certification in Basic Life Support and performing this skill when necessary.
