About The Position

Lakeland Community College is seeking a full-time, 12-month nursing program administrator. Working under the direction of the Dean for Health Technologies, the Nursing Program Director is primarily responsible for the continual development, and administration of the associate nursing program and RN-BSN program, which includes ensuring the mission/philosophy and outcomes of the nursing education department are congruent with those of the governing organizations, as well as providing input to and administering the program budget with faculty input.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved registered nursing education program.
  • A master’s degree with a major in nursing
  • Experience of at least five (5) years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse, two of which have been as a faculty member in a registered nursing program.
  • Current, valid licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Ohio.

Nice To Haves

  • An earned doctorate is preferred.
  • Teaching experience at a community college is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a plan for the evaluation and improvement of curriculum based on: student learning outcomes; input from faculty, administrators, clinical sites, students and advisory committees; and changes in pertinent national and state-wide legislation, standards for quality nursing care.
  • Provides ongoing supervision and evaluation of nursing faculty
  • Consults with faculty regarding planning, evaluating, or revising courses and clinical experiences.
  • Participates in college processes for assessing, interviewing, and recommending finalists for full-time faculty positions.
  • Collaborates with the Dean to complete faculty orientation.
  • Assists the Dean in classroom observations of probationary faculty and provides input for faculty evaluation.
  • Works in conjunction with relevant college departments, personnel, and processes to hire, orient, mentor and determine re-hire eligibility of part-time faculty.
  • Promotes professional development of all full time and part time nursing faculty.
  • Develops and recommends criteria and procedures for admission, promotion and graduation of students, in conjunction with the faculty, Dean and related College departments.
  • Oversees the program budget, recommending purchase of instructional materials, equipment and supplies.
  • Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with college administration and its corresponding units, faculty, students, the board, and external communities of interest, including clinical agencies.
  • Ensures regular faculty meetings for development, revision, and implementation of the systematic plan of evaluation, with development of action plans as needed.
  • Facilitates processes required for maintenance of accreditation and Ohio Board of Nursing approval.
  • Develops, plans, and assists with orientation and registration of new and returning students.
  • Ensures that clinical onboarding requirements are completed on a timely basis for both internal and external constituents (external hospitals and agencies) working in conjunction with faculty, clinical coordinator, and the department secretary.
  • Monitors student progress, determining eligibility for progression and graduation.
  • Advises students when performance and/or progress is unsatisfactory and assists in developing plan for improvement, in collaboration with faculty.
  • Meets with prospective graduates to review necessary procedures for licensing
  • Certifies each student’s degree completion to the Board of Nursing.
  • Ensures end of program, graduate, and employer surveys are conducted and analyzed, with improvement plans developed as needed.
  • Represents the nursing program with various relevant professional and regional organizations, including Ohio League for Nursing and Ohio Council for Associate Degree Nursing Education.
  • Assembles data and prepares a wide variety of reports and documents for regional, state, and national accrediting and approval bodies.
  • Participates and monitors activities related to grants specific to the nursing program or the college on an as needed basis.
