About The Position

The Nursing Educator position in the Emergency Department is responsible for providing personalized education by designing, developing, implementing and evaluating classroom and clinical instruction to support the orientation, ongoing educational needs and professional development of nursing and allied health professionals in the ED. The Nursing Educator maintains collaborative relationships with clinicians, departments/units, serves as an educational consultant and resource, and contributes to the development and achievement of goals for nursing Staff Development. The Nursing Educator assesses plans, organizes, develops, implements and evaluates education programs and learning activities designed to assist nursing personnel to acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes to meet job requirements. Develops and assesses nursing and nurse support competencies and collaborates effectively with the department, leadership team expectations. Responsibilities include new staff orientation, class development, new equipment nursing education, emergency preparedness and ED Nursing Internship.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or related field required
  • Current Ohio RN license or interim permit
  • Previous clinical nursing experience in Emergency Department
  • Progressive experience in leadership, clinical, or educational role
  • Master’s degree (Nursing preferred)
  • Current clinical experience or clinical instruction experience
  • Strong leadership skills, effective communication, problem-solving, and strong organizational skills
  • Interest in learning and teaching new skills
  • Recent teaching experience through employment or community activities
  • Experience with, commitment to, and competence in dealing with diverse adult populations
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills
  • Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, educational, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions
  • Maintains current Ohio RN license
  • Meet mandatory educational and health requirements
  • Maintains and seeks new knowledge related to patient care issues, quality improvement and cost reduction, current policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Knowledge of growth and development and an understanding of the range of treatments necessary to meet the age specific needs of the patient population served: (Check those that apply) Adolescents (14-17 years), Adults (18 – 64), Geriatrics (65 + years)

Responsibilities

  • Develops an individualized program to guide the new hire towards job competency
  • Identifies the requirements of the regulatory bodies to which the organization reports
  • Identifies new equipment, processes, policies, procedures, etc. that require staff education (responds to stakeholder's requests)

  • Participates in micro, meso, and macrosystem structures such as committees and councils to maintain awareness of needs

  • Participates in educational activities related to the NPD practitioner specialty
