This Nursing Professional Development Generalist (NPDG) will be supporting the Emergency Department at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The primary focus is at the site level, with support for system initiatives as needed. The role involves developing, coordinating, and implementing activities for new employee orientation, training programs, and continuing education for all nursing staff and other healthcare Team Members. The NPDG applies advanced knowledge of nursing in delivering evidence-based nursing and educational interventions along specialty or department lines. They design, implement, and evaluate educational programs that reflect organizational vision and values, and current healthcare trends in partnership with NPD Specialists. The role utilizes the educational design process to bridge knowledge, skills, and practice gaps identified through a needs assessment. It also contributes to the professional development of others and supports lifelong learning across practice settings. The NPDG assists with competency management, using tools that capture objective and subjective data regarding an individual's knowledge base and performance. They design educational activities to address practice gaps for identified target audiences in consultation with an NPD Specialist. The role utilizes best practice standards, including adult learning principles, in planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities to facilitate desired outcomes for learners. Collaboration with system and operational leadership is key to meeting the education needs of the site and nursing departments. The NPDG adjusts materials and teaching strategies appropriate to the situation and the learner's developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language preference, and culture. Implementation reflects awareness of the scope of practice of different employees and disciplines. Assistive aids/technologies are used as needed to meet learners' needs. The impact of programming on learners, organizational resources, and patient outcomes is evaluated and analyzed, with adjustments made in consultation with an NPD Specialist as needed. Appropriate evaluation tools and methodologies are established and implemented to identify needs or gaps in the knowledge, skills, and competencies of nursing personnel to advance the practice of nursing, in consultation with an NPD Specialist as needed.
