About The Position

The Nurse Manager will assist the Nursing Director in overseeing and guiding nursing and clinical employees within their department. This role involves interacting with hospital staff, patients, families, visitors, and ancillary departments to address patient care, concerns, and conflicts. The Nurse Manager is responsible for identifying and assisting in the resolution of these issues, communicating them to the Director, and maintaining employee performance skills, staff schedules, payroll, and orientation. They will also assist with performance improvement activities. While typically working weekdays, the position may require support at other times as needed. This position summary outlines the core duties and does not exclude other assignments.

Requirements

  • 2 years previous RN experience in same or similar unit(s) covered by position required.
  • Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Texas, or part of a compact state license, or has a valid temporary RN license for the State of Texas while waiting to receive the permanent license.
  • Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
  • Must have and maintain current certifications, according to unit specific needs.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years progressive supervisory experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or Bachelor’s in related field) on hire (effective July 1, 2018 for new hires).
  • Current Managers will be enrolled in a BSN program with degree completion no later than July 1, 2020; internal promotions will enroll into BSN program within 6 months of transition to Manager role.
