The Nurse Manager is responsible for the Gynecologic Oncology clinic and Oncology Nurse Navigation, ensures day to day operations, and supports the Cancer Center strategic plan. The ideal candidate builds relationships with people and teams to ensure shared success. The Nurse Manager manages the day-to-day operations for nursing staff and nursing activities for outpatient departments, including patient care, record keeping, and personnel issues. They are responsible for implementing the mission, vision, policies, goals, and objectives of the organization and the nursing/clinical services within their area(s). This role is accountable for the management of unit(s) or area(s) within an outpatient care setting. The Nurse Manager supports the nursing staff in performing the clinical roles of patient educator, caregiver, counselor, consultant, and patient advocate. They monitor patient care areas and other facilities for cleanliness and readiness. They assign patients to available nursing staff, taking into consideration the patient's condition and the employee's skill level. The Nurse Manager participates in interdisciplinary committees and shared governance councils within the outpatient setting. They help members of the professional interdisciplinary team to understand and value unique contributions. They act as liaisons between nursing, other disciplines, and administration. They promote the philosophy and goals of the organization, the development of team relationships, and outpatient practices. They may function in a variety of health care outpatient roles. The Nurse Manager oversees and assists with scheduling of nursing staff and managing productivity levels. They may fill in for clinical support staff when staffing gaps exist. They develop trusting relationships with staff and patients by demonstrating an empathetic and professional attitude. They assist in the training of new staff members and the development of existing staff members. They practice positive collaboration and convert difficult interactions into productive ones. They measure employee performance. They maintain current certifications in specialty and continue education when necessary as well as track and maintain for staff as needed. The Nurse Manager manages the process in reviewing results of clinical performance assessments and recommends process improvements. They implement established performance improvement policies and train employees on these policies. They assist with providing feedback in the collection and preparation of budget information. As needed, they oversee inventory levels and supplies for the department.
