Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse licensure or eligibility for Montana licensure
  • Progressive nursing experience
  • Previous leadership experience as a nurse manager, supervisor, house supervisor, director, or comparable nursing leader
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience supporting staffing, scheduling, employee development, or nursing operations
  • Knowledge of quality, patient safety, regulatory requirements, infection prevention, and nursing standards
  • The ability to remain calm, visible, practical, and supportive during challenging situations
  • Experience leading through workforce shortages, organizational change, or operational instability
  • Experience supporting nurses across multiple departments, facilities, reservations, or communities may be valuable
  • Experience with rural hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, FQHCs, public hospital districts, tribal healthcare organizations, regional systems, clinics, long-term care providers, or community healthcare organizations
  • Relevant education and certification based on the specific position
  • A collaborative, dependable, and relationship-focused leadership style

Responsibilities

  • Providing daily leadership, guidance, and support to nursing teams
  • Overseeing staffing, scheduling, patient flow, call coverage, and nursing operations
  • Supporting safe, high-quality, patient-centered, and community-focused care
  • Mentoring, coaching, and developing nurses, charge nurses, supervisors, and emerging leaders
  • Strengthening employee engagement, retention, accountability, and workplace culture
  • Responding to staffing concerns, clinical issues, emergencies, and operational challenges
  • Supporting orientation, education, competency, and professional development
  • Collaborating with physicians, advanced practice providers, executives, department leaders, tribal partners, and support services
  • Monitoring quality, safety, documentation, infection prevention, and patient-care standards
  • Developing and maintaining nursing policies, procedures, protocols, and workflows
  • Supporting regulatory readiness, accreditation, surveys, audits, and corrective action plans
  • Participating in recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, workforce planning, and succession planning
  • Helping improve communication between shifts, departments, facilities, communities, and leadership
  • Supporting nurses working across emergency, inpatient, outpatient, clinic, long-term care, maternal health, surgical, or community-based services
  • Helping maintain coverage during vacancies, severe weather, transportation delays, wildfire impacts, or increased patient demand
  • Supporting telehealth, regional consultation, and coordination between rural care, tribal healthcare programs, and regional hospitals
  • Supporting patients, families, employees, and communities during difficult or unexpected situations
  • Helping ensure nursing services remain stable, dependable, and available to the communities being served
