About The Position

The Nursing Internship at Steel Dynamics offers a unique opportunity to build lasting relationships with employees, differing from traditional nursing roles where patient interaction is often singular. Occupational health nurses at Steel Dynamics engage with the same employees regularly, enabling a deeper understanding of individual health needs, tracking progress, and providing consistent support. This ongoing connection enhances clinical skills and allows interns to witness the direct impact of their care on long-term employee wellness and safety. This internship is located at the Steel Dynamics Structural & Rail Division in Columbia City, IN, and will take place in Summer 2027.

Requirements

Enrolled in a nursing program (ASN or BSN)
Basic knowledge of patient care and clinical procedures
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow compliance protocols
Organized and detail-oriented with good documentation skills

Responsibilities

Assist with employee health screenings, medical surveillance, and pre-employment evaluations.
Support occupational health staff in providing basic care, first aid, and wellness education.
Conduct supervised testing and documentation for compliance with safety and health standards.
Help manage and track workplace injuries, worker’s compensation cases, and related records.
Participate in health and safety initiatives, employee training, and compliance activities.
Contribute to the organization and upkeep of clinical supplies, equipment, and records.
Collaborate with medical professionals, employees, and safety teams to support overall workplace health.
