About The Position

The Level Coordinator shall be responsible to the Director and the Dean of Health Sciences for State Fair Community College for oversight of individual program and assigned faculty, as well as collaborate with other coordinators as needed to achieve program outcomes. The Level Coordinator will be responsible for the faculty job description in addition to this job description and responsibilities. The level coordinator shall be responsible for assisting the director in: Compliance with minimum standards. Ongoing planning, systematic development, implementation and evaluation in relationship to the philosophy and outcome criteria of the ADN and PN programs. Providing input on program related policies regarding recruitment, admission, retention, promotion, and graduation of students Instruction and evaluation of students. Participating in development and evaluation of goals for recruitment, admission, retention, promotion and graduation of students. Ensuring availability of academic advisement and guidance of students. Maintaining student records per program and institutional policies. Ensuring confidentiality of student records. Maintaining clinical and educational competencies in area of instructional responsibilities. Participation in student activities as appropriate. Participation in departmental and institutional policies and decision-making. Serving as assigned mentor for less seasoned and new faculty Making budget requests Making recommendations for faculty course and clinical loads. Each level coordinator receives four (4) credit hour release time during fall and spring and one and one half (1.5) during summer. During contracted days, full-time faculty must be accessible to students and colleagues in person on campus, by phone or by email during the normal operating hours of the college. Full-time faculty must hold at least 5 Student Support Hours a week during the fall and spring semesters, scheduled over 2 or more days a week, at least 3 hours being held on-ground. Faculty members on 184-day contracts must hold 2 Student Support Hours per week during the summer term they are teaching. Faculty are expected to be on campus or in the clinical setting a minimum of 20 minutes prior to scheduled courses/clinical start time. Essential Duties: Level coordinator reports directly to the Director. In addition to the responsibilities and qualifications of nursing faculty, the level coordinator will be expected to perform the following: Coordinate clinical facilities and faculty to provide the most suitable clinical experiences for students in accordance with the clinical objectives. Initiate and update cooperative agreements with clinical facilities as needed. Review each semester with clinical faculty to ensure their understanding. Initiate new preceptor agreements, review older agreements, and update files to keep preceptor agreements current. Provide a current preceptor list to faculty every semester. Collaborate with other program coordinators to maintain a preceptor training program and review every two years. Coordinate the development of clinical rotation schedules in collaboration with clinical faculty and other coordinators. (deadlines are communicated through coordinator meetings) Collaborate with area nursing programs for clinical site scheduling to avoid conflicts. Coordinate clinical orientation with clinical facilities , clinical faculty and students. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with educational departments within clinical facilities to promote a positive learning environment. Arrange for student and faculty clinical site regulations to be met (EMR training, restraints, BGM, Omnicell, and other site-specific requirements) Coordinates the completion of clinical evaluations by sites and faculty after each rotation, addresses concerns, and provides copies to the clinical faculty. Follow up with students who are reported as at risk of noncompliance or who are noncompliant with immunization requirements, and notify clinical faculty when a student is noncompliant. Collaborate with Director regarding recruitment and retention of clinical adjunct faculty as needed to fill vacant positions. Oversees new faculty (full-time and adjunct) orientation and mentoring. Each new faculty will be assigned a primary mentor. Oversees annual updates for adjunct faculty utilizing the Annual Adjunct Nursing Clinical Instructor Professional Development Checklist. Provides and documents orientation and mentoring for faculty participating in the Missouri State Board of Nursing pilot program. Arrange for coverage during faculty absence for classroom and clinical. Ensure students, staff, and the director are notified. Collaborate with Director as needed. Collaborate with Director for scheduling of classes and clinical (such as nursing calendars, semester schedules, etc.). Engages in frequent and regular communication with faculty regarding program, course, and student outcomes as well as departmental and program decisions communicated by Director. Collaborates with Nursing Student Success Coordinator, Nursing Informatics Coordinator, Nursing Navigator, and Directors to coordinate resources and interventions that promote student success in both clinical and classroom settings. Assist faculty with counseling individual students regarding clinical and classroom performance and absenteeism as necessary. Assist in resolving student grievances as outlined in step 2 of the Nursing Program Academic Grievance Policy outlined in the Nursing Student Handbook. Recommends student dismissal to Director. Assist with delivery of new student orientation every semester. Contributes to annual academic review. Contributes to preparation for MSBN visits and required reports. Assist with ensuring all courses and clinical documentation required by accrediting body, institution, and department are submitted by faculty (syllabi, student course evaluations, matrices, attendance, grade reports, etc.). Contributes to agenda for monthly nursing meetings. Engages in monthly coordinator meetings. Collaborate with Director on activities of administrative assistant. Contributes to Administrative Assistant and faculty evaluations as requested. Collaborate with the Director regarding issues that are not easily resolved and provide recommendations for resolution. Routinely keeps Director informed of progress and challenges. Completes other duties as assigned. The preceding duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.

Requirements

  • Meet minimum standards for State Board approval.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing with clinical component.
  • Currently licensed to practice as a registered professional nurse in Missouri.
  • Nursing license cannot ever have been disciplined related to public safety.
  • Active in professional nursing organizations.
  • Current BLS/CPR.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Student-centeredness.
  • Ability to interact with a broad range of people with diverse backgrounds both on and off campus in a positive manner.

  • Equivalent of 2 years of full-time experience within 5 years or 2 years of part-time experience in the last 5 years.
  • Experience in nursing education, clinical practice, or administration.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or higher advanced nursing degree.
  • Evidence of active pursuit of a Master’s degree in Nursing or willingness to start a Master’s program in nursing within the first year of hire will be considered.
  • The Master’s Degree in Nursing must have a clinical component in either the Bachelors of Science in Nursing or Master’s with major in Nursing.
