About The Position

UPMC Altoona is launching the UPMC Mercy School of Nursing at Altoona, a new 16-month diploma program starting Fall 2026. We are seeking a full-time Nursing Instructor or Assistant Clinical Instructor passionate about clinical teaching and student development. This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape a new program with strong mentorship from experienced faculty. The position involves delivering high-quality didactic and clinical instruction, guiding students in applying the nursing process, ensuring safe, evidence-based care, and fostering strong clinical judgment. Collaboration with faculty to create meaningful learning experiences is key to student success and positive patient outcomes. Candidates will be hired into either the Nursing Instructor or Assistant Clinical Instructor job title based on MSN education. The salary range provided is for the Nursing Instructor title.

Requirements

• MSN required (for Nursing Instructor)
• 3 years of clinical practice
• BSN required (for Assistant Clinical Instructor)
• Must be enrolled in an MSN program with a 3 year completion plan (for Assistant Clinical Instructor)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
• CPR Certification for BLS for Health Care Providers.
• Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• Act 33 with renewal
• Act 34 with renewal
• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
• Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

• Utilize educational theory and evidence-based teaching strategies to design and deliver instruction.
• Apply current literature and best practices to enhance teaching effectiveness.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, scholarly work, and the Systematic Program Evaluation process.
• Use assessment and evaluation data to improve student learning and program outcomes.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of school policies.
• Maintain active membership in professional nursing organizations.
• Engage in ongoing professional development through continuing education, conferences, and peer feedback.
