About The Position

The Ohio Department of Veterans Services is seeking a candidate to direct, supervise, and evaluate long-term and acute care operations at The Southern Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio. This role requires a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator with experience in various aspects of healthcare operations, including nursing, social services, medical services, activities, dietary, pastoral care, medical records, compliance, life safety, admissions, quality assurance, performance improvement, and therapy (skilled care, intermediate care, and memory care). The Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown offers 168 beds for nursing home care, providing standard care and memory care for veterans. The home is staffed with a full-time Physician and Certified Nurse Practitioner and opened in 2003, offering a tranquil setting in Brown County.

Requirements

  • Valid nursing home administrator's license as issued by Ohio Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators, Department of Health pursuant to Section 4751.02 of Revised Code.
  • Experience in nursing, social services, medical services, activities, dietary, pastoral care, medical records, compliance, life safety, admissions, quality assurance, performance improvement, and therapy (skilled care, intermediate care, and memory care).

Responsibilities

  • Develops departmental procedures and policies in accordance with governing statutes.
  • Monitors business operations, including purchasing and personnel requests; initiates contracts for physicians; directs recruiting, training, and scheduling of medical and non-medical staff.
  • Interprets federal, state, and local regulations to ensure compliance with nursing home operations and licensure standards.
  • Monitors medical reporting, staffing, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and quality of care.
  • Supervises activity programming and evaluates/monitors all patient rehabilitation programs in consultation with physicians.
  • Maintains appropriate census and addresses issues related to admissions and denials of residents, including appeal rights for discharges; ensures an appropriate infection control program.
  • Establishes and maintains a favorable rapport with residents, their families, and/or guardians.
  • Establishes and reviews, at least annually, written policies regarding residents' rights and the home's grievance procedure.
  • Acts as lead in annual U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and Ohio Department of Health surveys, and all other complaint/compliance activities.
  • Reviews and develops a plan of correction for deficiencies noted during survey inspections.
  • Maintains cooperative relations with representatives of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, Ohio Department of Health, Ohio Department of Aging, area hospitals, veteran service organizations, and other nursing homes.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates life safety programs and nursing educational programs.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates fire and disaster plans.
  • Evaluates the annual financial program and coordinates the development of the budget for departments under the authority of the Nursing Home Administrator.
  • Plans and participates in the capital budget process to improve the quality of buildings and surroundings.
  • Serves as representative on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Committee, Compliance Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Attends Resident Council and Family Council meetings to present on current events at the Nursing Home.
  • Engages the community and veteran groups regarding the Ohio Veterans Home.
