About The Position

National University is seeking a Nursing Faculty member for its Department of Nursing in the School of Health Professions. This is a full-time, onsite position in San Diego, California, with a reduced teaching/scholarship/service load. The faculty member will collaborate with other faculty and program leadership to ensure program quality, student engagement, and success. The role involves providing intellectual leadership in nursing education and professional skill development, with a primary focus on teaching theory courses, and potentially clinical rotations. The faculty member is expected to engage students, provide excellent feedback, and inspire them to achieve course and program outcomes.

Requirements

  • Unencumbered registered nursing license in the State of California required.
  • Master’s degree in nursing required, with a specialization in nursing education preferred; MSN specialization should be noted.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in direct patient care required.
  • At least 1 year of direct patient care experience in the last 5 years required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of teaching experience in pre- or post-licensure nursing programs required.
  • Background check required.
  • Travel is required at least once annually to attend NU’s Commencement ceremony (if held onsite) as well as to clinical sites as required by the Campus Assistant Program Director.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate degree preferred.
  • CNE (Certified Nurse Educator) from National League for Nursing (NLN) preferred.
  • Certification within nursing specialty preferred.
  • Knowledge of Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) standards.
  • Knowledge of Competency Based Curriculum and AACN 2021 Essentials preferred.
  • Online higher education experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining courses preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses as assigned by the Campus Assistant Program Director, primarily focusing on theory, with potential for clinical rotations.
  • Leverage adaptive and advanced technology-based educational approaches to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Maintain academic rigor, high standards, and consistency in courses to attract, retain, and prepare a diverse student body for workforce demands.
  • Ensure course and program practices align with compliance and accreditation standards.
  • Establish an authentic presence while sharing experience, skills, and knowledge with students.
  • Provide timely, substantive communication and feedback utilizing technology tools.
  • Adhere to National University’s academic integrity policy and all policies of the School of Health Professions.
  • Participate in program and department meetings.
  • Serve on committees as required in the department or school.
  • Participate in professional development as required for accreditation and license renewal.
  • Participate in professional groups to stay abreast of new trends and innovations.
