About The Position

The Nursing Education Specialist works under the supervision of the DIRECTOR-Discover U Learning and Development Center. Collaborates with leadership and caregivers across the system to assess, plan, develop, implement, facilitate, evaluate and revise educational programming for all nursing personnel and non-nursing personnel as indicated or requested. The Nursing Education Specialist implements a comprehensive education program for his/her assigned areas (system, entity, department, clinic, etc.). Educational programs typically include, but are not limited to orientation, continuing education and in-services. Other services may include, but are not limited to process, performance and service-delivery consultation and contributions to the organization through ad-hoc or permanently established councils, committees and workgroups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree - BSN - Required
  • 4 Years - Clinical nursing experience - Required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - State Licensure/Or Compact State Licensure - State of Missouri - Required Upon Hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required Upon Hire
  • Ability to speak clearly, calibrate equipment, manipulation of small items and equipment, fine motor skills.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Flexibility; expertise in nursing care with the ability to communicate that knowledge to others.
  • Has customer orientation.
  • Obtain and move equipment, mannequin demonstration, push carts, demonstrates all phases of patient care (walking, standing, reaching, lifting, moving mannequins, and equipment).
  • Requires driving to and from various locations for business purposes.
  • In-depth understanding of principles of adult education, use of statistical analysis, and current knowledge related to performance improvement and competency evaluation.
  • Ability to evaluate problems/situations, possess organizational skills and good comprehension skills including the ability to collect and interpret data.
  • Manages multiple educational events in various stages of program design.
  • Outcome based philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate new caregiver orientation, transition to practice orientation for clinical caregivers and develop individualized orientation and development plans to meet learning needs.
  • Assess learning needs for system, entity and/or assigned areas, develop annual competencies\education plans validated by leadership.
  • Create individualized development plans to meet caregiver learning needs verified by caregiver and leadership as needed.
  • Researches, assesses, recommends and implements changes in the development and delivery of education (knowledge and skills) for all nursing personnel and non-nursing, clinical personnel (based on needs assessment and monitors effectiveness of program(s).
  • Develops training that is reflective of evidence-based practice and uses the appropriate methods of teaching to accommodate learning styles and the learning environment.
  • Creates Instructor Led, Blended Training and associated Sessions, Electronic Competency Validation Tools, Electronic Orientation Pathways and Curriculum in the Learning Management System to support electronic record of ongoing orientation, training, certification, competency, etc.
  • Reviews and updates according to assessed needs/data.
  • Supports the implementation of management decisions that affect clinical practice.
  • Plans educational programming for new or changing programs of care, supplies, equipment, workflows, etc.
  • Assists in development of clinical policies and procedures as requested.
  • Identifies opportunities, participates in Committees/PI teams/ RCAs/Regulatory Visits and implements improvements accordingly.
