About The Position

HealthPartners is hiring a Nursing Education Specialist. A Nursing Education Specialist, Ambulatory is responsible for the professional development and competency of nursing staff. They are responsible for coordinating orientation, delivering training, and facilitating ongoing education, ensuring all programs are evidence-based. They also support policy development and promote external learning opportunities, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to align practices with best guidelines. Their role is essential in maintaining high standards of clinical expertise and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited program in Nursing (RN)
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in area of clinical specialty required.
  • Experience in leadership roles, research utilization, staff development, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Experience as a preceptor/charge RN and conducting clinical education.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in either the state of Minnesota or Wisconsin. Upon hire, must obtain and maintain Registered Nurse licenses in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.
  • Current BLS provider status in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines
  • Evidence of skills in written/verbal communications, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and leadership.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cultural diversity and age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.
  • Knowledge, skills, and ability to perform acute care nursing role as defined in the RN criteria-based job description.
  • Knowledge of current nursing practices and techniques: associated chemistry, math, pharmacology, anatomy, and physiology of all body systems.
  • Ability to apply the nursing process to patient care.
  • Knowledge of dynamics of group processes, ability to perform as a part of a team as well as collaborating on cross-functional work teams.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and principles of adult learning and learner-centered training and education methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple simultaneous tasks, prioritizing appropriately.
  • Ability to identify educational needs and carry out appropriate education interventions.
  • Demonstration of ongoing training and skilled in staff development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s in nursing, heath sciences, or education
  • Experience in teaching.
  • Certification in Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC) and/or area of nursing specialty recognized by national certification body preferred. If not complete, prefer acquisition within 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the orientation of nursing colleagues to ensure a smooth onboarding and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collaborates with nursing leadership team and preceptors to develop individualized competency-based orientation/learning plan for each colleague.
  • Uses performance development resources to assist in development of individualized competency plans.
  • Maintains competency and clinical knowledge to role model care delivery and skill expertise for their specific patient population(s).
  • Teaches and facilitates new hire orientation for nursing colleagues.
  • Delivers training and education specific to population-based staff through various educational opportunities, ensuring evident-based practice and effective teaching strategies.
  • Effectively organizes and prioritizes work and training development and delivery to meet colleagues needs, while adopting an adult learner-centered training foundation.
  • Serves as subject matter expert in the development of didactic orientation and other training while ensuring evidence-based practice.
  • Teaches and facilitates annual and mandatory education (i.e., skills day, HealthPartners initiatives).
  • Teaches and facilitates external or consortium education and professional development which may include nursing staff.
  • Communicates and teaches colleague new/updated policies and procedures as well as new equipment training.
  • Teaches/facilitates/promotes study groups for specialty certification preparation.
  • Ensures that all educational programs are culturally competent, promoting an inclusive and diverse learning environment that meets the needs of a diverse patient and staff population.
  • Facilitates ongoing staff development by identifying educational needs, developing targeted programs, and maintaining competency materials.
  • Develops and conducts a periodic needs assessment to determine educational needs of nursing staff, analyzes data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement, and uses the findings to inform the development of targeted educational programs.
  • Develops and provides in-services/training in response to needs identified by unit leadership.
  • Identifies educational needs across the patient care continuum and ensures implementation of programs and materials using evidence-based practice to ensure staff maintain a high level of clinical expertise, incorporating new or innovative methods.
  • Provides training opportunities and resources for staff for whom the nurse leader has identified as having performance concerns.
  • Maintains and updates educational and competency materials to reflect current practices.
  • Maintains records of competency and educational activities to meet regulatory agency and legal requirements while promoting individual accountability for learning.
  • Maintains competency as trained Clinical Simulation Facilitator and utilizes simulation as training method when appropriate.
  • Supports the development and alignment of policies, procedures, order sets, work standards, and competencies with best practices and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Collaborates with nursing practice and interdisciplinary teams to review, update, and align policies, procedures, work standards, order sets, and nursing competencies with current best practices and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert on local and system-wide committees, providing insight and leadership to drive improvements in nursing practice and policy development.
  • Develops and disseminates communication to nursing and interdisciplinary teams regarding updates or changes to policies, procedures, and clinical practices, ensuring timely and effective implementation.
  • Assists in establishing standards or criteria based on the mission, values, and philosophy of HealthPartners.
  • Participates in departmental policy and procedure development, implementation, and interpretation for members of the healthcare team.
  • Helps to promote awareness of external opportunities for learning and networking.
  • Consults and collaborates with individuals/community agencies in providing effective continuing education opportunities for the nursing staff by actively participating in these programs.
  • Assists in the evaluation of educational program viability and makes recommendations as to the value of continuing, changing, or discontinuing on-going programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
