Under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Nursing Director is responsible for planning, implementing, directing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned Perinatal Services units. This role involves coordinating patient services, fostering a learning environment, developing and evaluating staff, and acting as a patient advocate. The Nursing Director is accountable 24/7 for managing all aspects of nursing activities within the assigned unit(s), ensuring that nursing care meets legal, ethical, institutional, and professional standards. They also participate in the Hospital’s Quality Improvement and Service Excellence programs and interpret/facilitate the implementation of organizational philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures. The position ensures the integration of the department into the organization's primary functions, creates a collaborative work environment, monitors patient care from admission to discharge, and collaborates with the Medical Director of Perinatal units (L&D, Post-Partum, Nursery & NICU Level I). Responsibilities include rounding on patients, investigating incidents and complaints, ensuring regulatory compliance, developing policies and procedures, planning and providing adequate staffing, establishing work schedules, ensuring employee records are complete, coordinating orientation and continuing education, participating in quality improvement processes, maintaining quality control programs, participating in budget planning, providing 24-hour leadership accountability, functioning in a staff role as needed, demonstrating adaptability and professionalism, participating in continuous Quality Improvement programs, abiding by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct, maintaining patient confidentiality, and ensuring a safe work environment.
