About The Position

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Nursing Management, the Nursing Care Unit Assistant supports the nursing team by helping provide a safe, clean environment and a positive patient experience. The role assists assigned patients with nursing care and activities of daily living under the direct supervision of an RN, reports relevant observations, and helps maintain patient-care areas and equipment. The schedule includes every other weekend and holidays.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to communicate effectively.

Patient care or housekeeping experience.

Responsibilities

Administer nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Provide hygienic care and assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, oral hygiene, toileting, and feeding as assigned.
Report patient observations and unusual conditions to the RN, including changes in comfort, skin integrity, or breathing patterns.
Communicate routine information to the RN during the shift, such as intake and output.
Provide constant observation for patients requiring increased security to prevent harmful behavior.
Assist patients safely into wheelchairs or onto stretchers, transport them, or accompany them as required.
Obtain specimens such as urine, stool, and sputum.
Follow infection-control and patient-safety policies and procedures.
Maintain neat, orderly, safe, and clean patient-care areas; wash equipment and clean work areas.
Clean, change, and make beds or stretchers; replenish supplies as needed.
Prepare rooms for new admissions and transfers.
Report to the Head Nurse or designee and accept assignments as given.
Participate as an integral member of the nursing team and assume additional duties and responsibilities.
Maintain competence by attending in-service education programs.
Perform related duties as required.
